Asia Cup 2022 | Battle within a Battle | Conquer as Asian Supremacy

The Asia Cup is considered the second most prestigious tournament among the Asian countries after the World Cup. Conquering Asia is as good as winning a continental. In old commercials a tag line as ‘Asia nahi jita to kya jita’ were used – This shows the importance of the Asia Cup in cricketing calendars.

How did it start? – The name is ‘Abdul Rahman Bukhatir’. He is known as 'Kerry Packer' of the Gulf Region. He transformed Sharjah Cricket Stadium, from a stadium in the desert, to one of the historic and Guinness Book of World Records-holder cricket grounds.

In 1981, he organised a cricket match between Gavaskar XI and Miandad XI at Sharjah which saw a grand commercial success and that led to an idea of having Asian team’s tournament. In 1983 finally succeeded with the foundation of ACC (Asian Cricket Councils) as subordinate to the ICC (International Cricket Councils) and ACC started to act as a continent's regional administrative body.

Following year, i.e. in 1984 first edition of the Asia Cup was held in Sharjah, UAE. The 1984 Asia Cup was a round-robin tournament where each team played the other once. India won both its matches and declared as winner of the inaugural Asia Cup. Sri Lanka came in second while Pakistan lost both its matches.

Past Asia Cup Winners – India leads the chart as 7 time Asia Cup champions, Sri Lanka has won 5 times while arch-rivals Pakistan has won 2 titles. MD Azharuddin and MS Dhoni are the most successful captains from India who lead the team to win 2 Titles each while Sunil Gavaskar was first captain to win the inaugural Asia Cup for India.

πŸ†Sunil Gavaskar – 1984
πŸ†Dilip Vensarkar – 1988
πŸ†Mohammed Azharuddin – 1990-91, 1995
πŸ†MS Dhoni – 2010,2016
πŸ†Rohit Sharma – 2018

Introduction of T20’s in Asia Cup – After downsizing the Asian Cricket Council in 2015, it was announced by the ICC that Asia Cup events from 2016 would be played on a rotation basis between One Day International and Twenty20 International format, on the basis of the format of upcoming world events. As a result, the 2016 event was the first event played in the T20I format and functioned as a preparatory tournament ahead of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, while the 2018 event was in ODi format based on the format of upcoming world events of Cricket ODi WC 2019.

Asia Cup 2022 Format – As per the rotation basis, Asia Cup 2022 will be played as in T20i format in order to prepare for T20i WC to be held later in the month of October/November 2022 in Australia.

Host Nation for Asia Cup 2022 – As per original schedule Sri Lanka was awarded as Host Nation and Venue for Asia Cup 2022, but On 21 July 2022, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed to the ACC that they would not be in a position to host the tournament due to the economic and political crisis in the country. On 27 July 2022, the ACC confirmed that the tournament would be played in the United Arab Emirates, with Sri Lanka Cricket still serving as the tournament's host nation but venue will be in the United Arab Emirates.

Venue and Ground StatsAsia Cup 2022 will be hosted by UAE across two venues as Dubai and Sharjah.

-- Dubai Ground – Statically, Dubai Ground has a good reputation on supporting chasing teams due to ground dimensions and pitch behaviours. Anything between 160-70 is considered as par score and makes the match colourful. Total number of matches allotted to Dubai Ground are 10 or in other words, 85% of Asia Cup will be played at Dubai Ground only. As far as punting is concerned, backing and supporting a chasing team will give better profit.

-- Sharjah Ground – At times Sharjah grounds are considered as batting paradise where no total was SAFE, but in the past couple of years due to pitch changes, (New curator and Pitch prepared), overall behaviour and par score act in very weird fashion. Par score, which was earlier around 180+, now days back to the range of 150-60. Total number of matches allotted to Sharjah Ground are 3 only. As far as punting is concerned, be very careful in Sharjah’s matches (Especially in Sessions) as blind bluffs will wait for you.

Match Timing – Match will start from 6:00 PM Local Time (7:30 PM IST) and daily there will be one match only. There are no double-header matches in Asia Cup 2022.

Teams and Qualifications – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were qualified as full members of ACC and for the remaining one spot Hong Kong emerged as the final team to qualify for Asia Cup 2022. Hong Kong beat UAE in his final qualification match to clinch the final berth for Asia Cup 2022.

1) First Things First - Tournament Format and Details – As a punter it is very important to understand tournament format and rules before moving ahead. Most of the people have less idea about it, so first check out the new things and rules first.

-- Tournament Format – There are 2 rounds of matches where each round has 6 matches. To start with, all 6 teams are divided into two groups as in Group A and Group B. Group A involves India, Pakistan and Hong Kong (as a qualifier team) and Group B involves Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. In many terms Group B is considered as ‘Group of Death’ as one team has to go home after completion of round 1. In Round 1 each team will play against in their respective group and the top 2 (Two) team from each group will progress to super 4 stage as for round 2 competition. In Round 2 each team will play against all other 3 teams. Team who finishes as top 2 after completion of super 4 stage will lock their horn against each other in ‘Grand Finale’ to establish themself as ‘Asian Supremacy’.

-- Rest of the rules like strategic time out after 10th over, Free Hit, 2 DRS per Innings and Super Over (in case of TIE) will remain intact as its International T20 match.

2) Timing of the Asia Cup is the Great Mixture of Dilemmas – This point is specially to manage your punting mind-set. Asia Cup which is a well-organized international level tournament is placed in between other leagues like The Hundred and The 6iXTY, here, as a punter you have to switch your mind-set while following Asia Cup and doing punting.

First things to remember and digest is that it's a multinational global tournament and has its own behaviour on match odds and odds fluctuation. As a punter it is very important to come-out the shortest format mindset quickly to avoid error and loss.

3) Team India – Team India will enter the Asia Cup as defending champions to defend their title. On/Off field, India is the strongest team and strong contender to clinch the title once again. Team India is doing consistently well in T20i’s around the globe but when it comes to knock-out stages the team has failed to cross the line. As far as punting is concerned, be watchful with India’s matches as in the international tournament India has a very bad tendency from punting angle.

Either team wins straight or when it loses, loses the match hard. If you look back and do P/L tally, the punter always makes a big loss in India’s match in a global tournament, so be very careful while placing your bet on India’s match. On a personal note we would like to see India go through to the finals and on the final day, only loads and odds will decide India’s faith to clinch the Asia Cup title for the 8th time or not.

4) Team Pakistan – Pakistan often considered as a punters paradise team due to the unpredictability and uncertainty nature of the team. Pakistan team rose to high under charismatic leadership of Babar Azam especially in T20i and this Pakistan team is considered as second strong contender to clinch Asia Cup title. However, the absence of Shaheen Afridi will definitely hurt them but the team still has enough fire-power in the bowling line to challenge any batting line-ups in the world. Pakistan’s main strength is their bowling group, if the team is able to post a good total on the board then it's a bit difficult to chase it down by breaching their strong bowling attack. Pakistan is the only team in the world where they can be beaten by 'PAKISTAN' only on the given day!

5) Team Sri Lanka – Team Sri Lanka is in the same crisis situation as the current affair of their country. Sri Lanka has great individuals who can turn the game on their head but as a combined unit team is, fail to deliver. Batting is the weakest part of the Sri Lankan team, they have enough firepower in their bowling line-up but that could only come to the rescue if the team is able to post a big total on the board.

6) Team Bangladesh – Bangladesh is one and only oldest full member of the ICC team that always claims that they are in the learning process and on the right path to deliver. However, since the past 4-5 years, the team has achieved a high in global tournaments and as a result, Bangladesh was last Asia Cup’s runner-up as well. But once again some internal politics and Shakib’s Dilemma put the team on the radar of uncertainty.

7) Team Afghanistan – Since high-rise of Taliban in Afghanistan’s territory we have seen a high-level fall in performance of Afghanistan in recent years. Afghanistan’s main strength is their spin bowling and the team is over dependent on spin trio Rashid, Mujeeb and Nabi. Afghan’s batsmen have to be fired big time if they want to progress to super 4 stage. Match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will decide their fortune to progress in the tournament.

8) India-Pakistan Rivalry and Matches – We have an Asia Cup and India vs Pakistan, in all aspects there are two different tournaments running as its battle within the battle. As far as punting is concerned stay away from India Vs Pakistan match and if your internal ‘Punting Cockroach’ is not allowing you then play with a small limit or play for enjoyment only. Since the last 6-8 years, India V Pakistan match has been a one-sided affair only and the second inning colour is totally missing.

The main reason is LOAD, Bookmakers load on India Vs Pakistan match is at highest peak, in such a big load it’s nearly impossible to have topsy-turvy match (Alta-Palti Match) as they are not worried on viewership as viewership and TRP will always be there till last ball weather match is straight or not.

The second main reason that punters are making losses in India Vs Pakistan matches is patriotism. Do not mix punting, gambling and patriotism. Focus on your profit if you are punting, patriotism has nothing to do with punting. On a personal note, I would love to see 3 India Vs Pakistan matches in the Asia Cup.

9) Asia Cup Final – As mentioned above, we personally feel very confident to have India V Pakistan in the Asia Cup Final. There are many reasons behind it, 1) India V Pakistan never faced each other in any Asia Cup final since date, 2) India were always a strong team and now a days, Pakistan has also emerged as strong team 3) It’s been 5 year since India and Pakistan face in any knock-out or final match (Last was in 2017 Champions Trophy Final), 4) India V Pakistan match is always considered as blockbuster from viewership and TRP point of view and organisers have a great chance to make it at next level considering overall fight on media coverage and rights among the companies to ensure that on next renewal of rights they get a handsome amount from broadcaster.

10) Asia Cup Final for Punters – Since the last 2 Asia Cup, Final of Asia Cup was a one sided affair only. In the last both finals India face-off Bangladesh and won the match easily. This year, we are expecting better match-ups in the final match and hoping for a good punter friendly final.

11) Important Tips for Punting in International Tournament – Nowadays, we are surrounded with local leagues only and as far as international tournaments or tri-nations tournaments, hardly we see one off in a year and that leads new punters to confusion on odds and match results. We are sharing some important points that need to be looked after while punting in an international tournament.

-- It's an International Tournament not a League – First thing to understand is that the match where you are going to trade/punting is an international tournament's match. You will observe huge differences in Odds behavior, Session behavior compared to normal match and that how it has to be in multi-nation tournaments.

Favorite teams will always have an upper hand on odds and load of the match, odds fluctuation will not seem like local T20 matches, Teams are bound to perform well in multi-nation tournaments that add extra pressure on odds and match outcome. Overall more than 80% matches will be in favour of favorite teams. Hence, if you are a genuine punter then refresh your brain and mindset first, mentally prepare your-self and then apply to avoid error or loss.

-- Load Matters the Most – In the international tournament load is also one the big factor that leads to overall outcome of the match and a big reason behind the odds fluctuation ratio. Here, things to understand that at global level there are big chunks of punters who only do trading/punting in genuine or international tournaments only. These punters are called 'Seasonal Punters' and when they came, they came with all guns blazing with big money that made an implicit impact on the overall bookmaker market. As a result overall cumulative load will be considered as the outcome of the result of the match.

-- Odds favours the favourites - As mentioned above with all reasons, match odds will favour the most to favourite teams, here, it's wise decision that while punting be with a good team and back them to win on good odds. It's a simple and straightforward formula to make a profit in a global tournament. Do not apply your brain much on market's shout, apply your common sense, make your profit and enjoy the match!

-- Watchout for Group B Matches – From punting point of view, we are expecting that Group B’s matches will be more colourful and punters can get good trading. All 3 teams of Group B have their own unpredictable nature of things. Any team can beat any at any given point of time and matches will turn on their heads from low odds as well.

-- Don't mix up Patriotism and Punting – Punters often attach their patriotism emotion with punting and we also observed that some punters play with a high limit as well (Specially in multinational and global tournaments). Don't do this, it's very dangerous for your pocket's health. If you can't control your emotions then simply watch the match only (Don't do punting) or if you want to do punting then put aside your patriotism emotions and apply common sense and do punting as per match situation and team strength.

-- Don’t B Greedy, B Needy – In any format of the match, if you apply this rule as a thumb-rule on your emotions then you will always be in profit. One more important thing needed to apply in the international multinational league is to BOOK SET at low odds. As mentioned above, in-case a big load is there on a favourite team by 'Seasonal Punters' then the match can be turned from low-odds. This happens quite a lot in international multinational leagues where loss on 'BACK' is very huge against a loss on 'LAY' is minimal.

-- Choose your bookmaker wisely – We often hear about bookmaker related fraud in the market, sometimes when you are on a good winning note, a bookmaker refuses to release or withdraw your winning amount. This leads to further frustration to punter and act as salt on wounds.

To avoid such things, it is better to play at your city’s local bookmaker only, in the worst case if you are unable to find genuine bookmakers around you with 24X7 service then you can choose and trust on our own product ‘Khan Dada Online Hub’.
