Big Bash League 2022/23 | The Grandest League

Discussion on Era and Evolutions of T20 cricket is just like a half of the glass without mentioning or giving credit to BBL; If IPL is the richest T20 league in the world, BBL is a standout for the grandest T20 league in cricketing circuits! In many terms, BBL is considered as one of the best view leagues for grounds, atmosphere, crowd engagement, innovative commentary boxes, social media coverage, and innovations like zing balls, helmet cameras, power surge rules, 360-degree viewership angle on local CA apps and many more.

History and Past Winners – BBL’s first season was started in the 2011-12 season and replaced the local KFC Twenty20 Big Bash into a franchise-based Big Bash League. Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are the most successful team of the tournament that wins 4 and 3 titles respectively, whereas, the most unluckiest team is Melbourne Stars that fail to win a title yet (2 time runner-ups). Chris Lynn is leading all-time top run charts with 3005 runs and Sean Abbott leading all-time top wicket charts with 125 wickets. BBL’s past winner lists are as below;

πŸ† 2011/12 – Sydney Sixers (Runner-ups – Perth Scorchers)
πŸ† 2012/13 – Brisbane Heat (Runner-ups – Perth Scorchers)
πŸ† 2013/14 – Perth Scorchers (Runner-ups – Hobart Hurricanes)
πŸ† 2014/15 – Perth Scorchers (Runner-ups – Sydney Sixers)
πŸ† 2015/16 – Sydney Thunder (Runner-ups – Melbourne Stars)
πŸ† 2016/17 – Perth Scorchers (Runner-ups – Sydney Sixers)
πŸ† 2017/18 – Adelaide Strikers (Runner-ups – Hobart Hurricanes)
πŸ† 2018/19 – Melbourne Renegades (Runner-ups – Melbourne Stars)
πŸ† 2019/20 – Sydney Sixers (Runner-ups – Melbourne Stars)
πŸ† 2020/21 – Sydney Sixers (Runner-ups – Perth Scorchers)
πŸ† 2021/22 – Perth Scorchers (Runner-ups – Sydney Sixers)

BBL as a League for Punters – As per my personal experience, BBL is one of the professional leagues as far as teams/odds/market. A professional punter will enjoy this kind league where a proper contest is there between bat and ball. Good teams do better and Bad teams pay the price for their mistakes. It is not a league where you expect an unexpected on-field drama, circus, magic in every match (like our Asian Leagues); rather BBL has its own standards and their conundrum in which the league behaves and follows. BBL has always had an upper hand on 'Runs-On-The-Board' and 'Favour the First Bat' by standards.

Additionally, one notable thing to remember is that in BBL only 2 overseas players (unlike 4 overseas in other leagues) can participate in playing 11 and therefore you must have good knowledge of Australian Domestic players, ultimately this knowledge will help you to know the team strength and weakness in a better way. Our suggestions to punter is to take BBL as a standard league and revise the trading strategy while playing in BBL. Overall if you are able to get rid and identify the veins of the league, its league to make sure shot money in many terms.

 1) Past Year Recap and Summary – Last season of BBL was full of bluff and punters pocket drainer season. The main reason behind dull season was mid-league COVID scare, state border restrictions, last moment match re-scheduling, team playing without star players due to COVID infections; but still last year produced some very good matches including final of BBL but overall last season was a nightmare for punters (more than 50% matches were straight) and viewership experience also touches it’s all time low records. Below are some match summaries of last season;

 $$ BBL 2021/22 Summary with Rates $$

πŸ‘‰ Straight Matches – 32
πŸ‘‰ No Results/Abandoned – 1
πŸ‘‰ 50-50p Trading Matches – 12
πŸ‘‰ 40p Jackpot Matches – 7
πŸ‘‰ 20p Jackpot Matches – 5
πŸ‘‰ 10p Jackpot Matches – 4

 2) League Format – BBL is also played as in Home/Away fashion like IPL; Each 8 teams will play with each other 2 times one at home and one at away with a total 14 matches per team. League stage has in total 56 matches and the playoffs have 5 matches. BBL has introduced the 5th team in playoffs to make it more competitive and unique amongst the league around the globe.

 3) Revised Rules & Inclusion of DRS – BBL has scrapped X-Factor (Substitution rule) and Bash Point (Extra Point based on 10 over team total) but retained Power Surge (4 over + 2 over floating power play). Slow over rate rule (which is new) is introduced in BBL from this year; as per rule each inning must be completed within 79 minutes; if not then only four (4) fielders are allowed outside 30 yard circles. In addition – From this year BBL have introduced DRS (Decision Review System) for the first time and each team will have 1 review per inning.

 4) Match Timing – Match timing is a bit weird and odd; most matches will start at 1:45 PM IST, for double header some matches start in the morning at around 10:00 AM IST and if double header includes Perth as venue then the second match starts at around 3:45 PM IST. In-short match span is in during hot business hours as per IST.

 5) Live Telecast – You can watch Big Bash League 2022/23 exclusively live on TV on Sony Sports network and Sony Liv App with paid subscription. Punters please note that if you are planning to follow the match on Sony Liv then Sony Liv will relay the telecast 1.5 balls behind; to get accurate and ball-by-ball updates you can download our own app free.  6) Weather Challenge – Australia is the country that has faced a lot of climate change disasters in past years. It's advised that you MUST CHECK the weather forecast properly before the start of any match and place the bet accordingly.

7) Venue Details – 16 different venues will be used in this year’s BBL as after 3 years BBL is back to its normal routine of Home/Away schedule, each venue has its own characterises and pitch behaviour, check it out in detail as below for major venues in details where majority of BBL will be played;

πŸ‘‰ Simonds Stadium, GeelongGeelong is one of the contrasting and unpredictable venues of Australia. Traditionally ground is used for Football and Rugby matches and for Cricket running amendment and modification made over drop-in pitches and boundaries sizes. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 2 (Melbourne Renegades Home Matches).

πŸ‘‰ Bellerive Oval, Hobart – Hobart is considered as one of the Chase Favourite grounds in Australia. As square boundaries are small, no total is much safe at Hobart as we witnessed in BBL as well. 170-80 considered as good fighting and PAR total at Hobart. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 5 (Hobart Hurricanes Home Matches).

πŸ‘‰ Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne – MCG is often considered as the Master of Collapse Ground. MCG has witnessed a large number of collapses in major multi-national events/tournaments. With big square boundaries and dead nature of pitches, MCG always preferred runs on the board. Anything over 165-70 will be difficult to chase and anything below 155-50 will be difficult to defend, that is how the pitch and nature of MCG. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 6 (Melbourne Stars Home Matches).

πŸ‘‰ Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney – SCG considered as a true sporting venue in Australia. With spin friendly wickets, SCG offers a true veteran style of cricket in the modern era. 175 is considered as a PAR score and by nature the SCG venue is defended. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 5 (Sydney Sixer Home Matches).

πŸ‘‰ Adelaide Oval, Adelaide – Adelaide is one of the punter friendly grounds of Australia. Adelaide has witnessed unbelievable matches and turn-around in the past (irrespective of format). Punter will enjoy trading in Adelaide matches. 165-70 is considered a PAR score at Adelaide. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 7 (Adelaide Strikers Home Match).

πŸ‘‰ The Gabba, Brisbane – Gabba is one of the pace paradise venues of the modern era. Fast bowlers will enjoy the true and fast wicket of Gabba. By nature Gabba as well is in line with MCG having the same nature on PAR score. Anything over 165-70 will be difficult to chase and anything below 155-50 will be difficult to defend. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 5 (Brisbane Heats Home Match).

πŸ‘‰ Perth Stadium, Perth – Perth Stadium or Optus Stadium is a newly built stadium in Perth that replaced traditionally W.A.C.A. Very few international T20 matches are played in the new Perth stadium hence not much exposure on PAR score as sample size is very small. However, BBL records its ground that favours bat first with added advantage on odds. Total Number of Matches Allotted – 5 (Perth Scorchers Home Match).

πŸ‘‰ Docklands Stadium, Melbourne – First and unique roof elevated cricket stadium in the world. Docklands stadium is well-known for its jackpot nature games as square boundaries are very small. Over the past years Docklands have produced a very high number of interesting and jackpots matches of BBL. Traditionally pitch and ground dimensions are favoured chasing teams the most and there is no total considered as safe total at Docklands stadium (BBL’s highest run chase of 223 between Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes happened at Dockland Stadium only in 2017 season!). Total Number of Matches Allotted – 5 (Melbourne Renegades Home Match).

 8) Team Perth Scorchers – Perth Scorchers are one of the successful and highly professional and consistent teams of the BBL. This year non-availability of Mitch Marsh will hurt the Perth Scorchers and the batting department looks weak this year. However, the inclusion of Faf Du Plessis will definitely help them but he will depart from the team in January first week for SA20 duty. Bowling as usual at its top notch for Perth to defend any total but the team will definitely struggle to chase down a high score for sure due to lack of fire-power in batting.

 9) Team Sydney Sixers – Sydney Sixers is the only team that has the same core and bunch of players since generations. Sixers do not believe in keeping changing/chopping in their core balance and that strategy makes them the second most successful team of BBL. Inclusion of Kurtis Patterson will definitely boost Sixers' weak batting line-ups and they have specialist death bowlers in forms of Chris Jordan and Daniel Christian. Traditionally, the Sixers are considered a good chasing side.

 10) Team Sydney Thunder – Sydney Thunder behave like Thunder-storm only when it comes to progress in BBL; Starts with cracker jack STORM but slowly make it deem as tournament progresses. Thunder has lost their veteran servant Usman Khawaja (who has won a maiden BBL title to Thunders) in a trade with Brisbane Heat but have enough power in batting like Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw.

Thunder also have best available all-round resources like Crhis Green and Daniel Sams in their ranks. Inclusion of David Warner in the final phase of BBL will definitely give some kick that thunder is missing over the years. The only weak link in Thunders line-up is the captain of the team i.e. Chris Green. Chris Green has done captainship stints in the past but not as full time captain. Thunder's fortune will all depend on Chris Green's captaincy abilities.

 11) Team Melbourne Stars – Stars; as name suggests full of stars, high profile players, one of the richest franchisees, comes from sporting capital of Melbourne and played at MCG as their Home Ground. Despites of having everything, the star has nothing to illustrate on the BBL map. Somehow, they are consistent enough to make it to the semis and playoffs but can not breach the code of conduct of winning the knockout matches.

This year’s season will be even worse as they have lost Glenn Maxwell for the entire season and Adam Zampa handed a captainship. Bowling looks good (at least on paper) by inclusion of Trent Boult but the batting department is missing fire power hitters. Punters please be very careful in Melbourne Stars matches (if possible avoid it) otherwise you will lose the entire budget of BBL in one-off stars matches.

 12) Team Melbourne Renegades – Renegades are a very consistent team in terms of losing matches and remain at the bottom of the table since the last 3 seasons. Even though they have experience of big names like Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Kane Richardson they have failed to make an impression. Despites of all negatives, Renegades have a big positive factor is that its punter friendly team. 7/10 Renegades matches are punter friendly and punter can have good earnings from renegade’s matches by trading. Our expert suggestions to punters is to focus on trading in renegades matches that will give good profit.

 13) Team Adelaide Strikers – Adelaide Strikers are as Dark Horse in my lists, my personal favourite team and one of the defending friendly teams of BBL. Adelaide Strikers are also the most fan backed team of BBL, home fan support is amazing in Adelaide's matches and that makes them lethal and even more strong at home.

Adelaide Strikers is the only team who can make the match from any situation even If 20 required from the last 18. Bowling is always a big positive for strikers but batting looks a bit weak when their regulars like Travis Head and Alex Carrey are missing out on national duty. However, inclusion Chris Lynn will give them a much needed power punch in power play overs.

 14) Team Brisbane Heat – Brisbane Heat welcomes their original veteran player (Queenslanders) Usman Khawaja in style. Inclusion of Colin Munro and Sam Billings will make this team more lethal. Brisbane Heat is often compared as BBL’s RCB because of its un-consistent but consistent nature of losing matches from winning situations. It’s a punter's dream team to trade on. Batting looks great on paper but bowling is still a bit weak. Heat has enough firepower to chase any target but could be short on defending modest totals.

 15) Team Hobart Hurricanes – Hobart is another proven punter friendly team. On paper Hobart looks the most stable and balanced team of all but they always failed to apply the same on the field in key matches. If bowling works then their batter disappoints and if the batter posts a good total bowler makes a mockery of the total.  Due to this uneven balance of bat/ball it makes Hobart a special trading team amongst the all in the history of BBL.

 16) Bookie Teams – Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder

 17) Punter Friendly Teams – Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades

 18) Dark Horse Team – Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heats

 19) Average Team – Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers

 20) First Bat v Second Bat – As mentioned earlier, BBL always has an odds that supports First Bat by nature of wicket and ground dimensions. We will witness 65% V 35% ratio on Defend V Chasing the total in BBL. High scores will not be easily chased and modest totals will not be easily defended and that trend will continue in BBL as well. Overall, we are expecting 165-70 is a very much PAR score of BBL.

 21) Chase V Defend Jackpot Scenarios – As per stats, this year defend jackpots has upper hand in compared to chase jackpots irrespective of series and that trend will continue in BBL as well and traditionally BBL supports first bat as well, we will witnessed more off defend jackpots in this year’s BBL as well.

 22) BBL’s BIG Players that always Loot Punters – Chris Lynn, Aaron Finch, Andrew Tye, Travis Head, Daniel Sams, Joe Burns, Marcus Stoinis, Andre Russell, Moises Henriques, Nathan Coulter-Nile – These are the lists of some special players and they are born to loot only. Whenever punters are doing some trading/session by putting faith on them; these players disappoint every time for 8/10 times. Please be careful with these special players of BBL.

 23) BBL’s Punter Friendly Players – Daniel Christian, Kurtis Patterson, Adam Zampa, Rashid Khan, Mathew Gilkes, Usman Khawaja, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Tim David, Ashton Agar, Wes Agar, Sam Billings, Jason Sangha – These are some lists of players which have die hard fight ability for team. They will do their best in the middle and will not disappoint you as a punter for 8/10 times. You can put your faith and money on these players.

 24) 6 Over Session Yes/No Calculations – First 6 over session calculations and stats are totally changed since the ‘Power Surge’ rule is implemented in BBL. Some teams take the first 4 overs in precautionary manner some make it big bangs and that impacts on the overall 6 over session total.

As per stats average 6 over session figure is around 42-43 runs since past 3 seasons (since Power Surge implements) and average 6 over session opens in every match is around 44-45-46. These stats will give an exact mirror that placing a bet on ‘SESSION NOT’ is more beneficial than ‘SESSION YES’. Off course team by team it varies but overall trend suggests that most of the teams prefer slow starters in BBL.

 25) Power Surge Puzzle – Since the power surge rule applied in BBL, it's always been treated as a puzzle for teams and punters as well. In BBL avoid putting your bet on a 15 over session as doors are open for power surge after 10 overs and you never know if any team takes power surge in between the whole scenarios of session calculation will change. Always prefer to have a session bet after completion of 2 overs of power surge.

 26) New Year Evening Match (31st December) – New Year Evening match has its own importance in BBL since its inception; 2 things were fixed; One is that it will be Adelaide Strikers home match and Second is that Adelaide Strikers will win the match in jackpot style. Unfortunately since the last 3 seasons Adelaide Strikers are losing the match and losing it in one-sided fashion (In-fact in 2019 season – We are the only in the market who has predicted in Advance that Adelaide will lose from here onwards and that happened).

Now this year for a change we have a double header on New Year Evening this year and we are predicting that both matches will be good punter friendly matches and Adelaide Strikers will end their 3-year long losing JINX this year by winning New Year Evening Match.

 27) Some lists of Punter Friendly Matches - Melbourne Stars V Sydney Thunder, Perth Scorchers V Sydney Sixers, Adelaide Strikers V Brisbane Heats, and Hobart Hurricanes V Melbourne Renegades.

Additionally – We often hear about bookmaker related fraud in the market, sometimes when you are on a good winning note, a bookmaker refuses to release or withdraw your winning amount. This leads to further frustration to punter and act as salt on wounds. To avoid such things, better to play at your city’s local bookmaker only, in the worst case if you are unable to find genuine bookmakers around you with 24X7 service then you can choose and trust on our own product ‘Khan Dada Online Hub’.
