Finally, the magic of the Caribbean island cricket festival is back in style. Among all the leagues around the world CPL aka Caribbean Premier League has its own identity and style of cricket that always thrill the cricket sports lovers. We will witness everything like seas, sands, beeches, beer, babes, ball, bat n balle valle in CPL with style in 12th Edition of the league.
Those who have very little knowledge about CPL then CPL was founded by Cricket West Indies in 2013 to replace the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier Twenty20 competition in the Caribbean. Republic Bank is the current sponsor of CPL, hence, the league is called Republic Bank CPL for sponsorship reasons. The inaugural tournament was won by the Jamaica Tallawahs who defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final and Guyana Amazon Warriors are defending champions of CPL who won last year by defeating Tribago Knight Riders in the final.
First things first – This CPL could be good punter friendly in terms of trading and earn profit out of it. Big reason behind this is the inclusion of a new team called ‘Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ which replaced the Jamaica Tallawahs. Historically, whenever a new ownership enters in any league/tournament that particular first year of inclusion witnessed a good match in terms of trading, we are hoping the same for this year as well.
π Past Champions of CPL π
π Jamaica Tallawahs – 2013, 2016, 2022
π Barbados Royals – 2014, 2019
π Tribago Knight Riders – 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020
π St Kitts & Nevis Patriots – 2021
π Guyana Amazon Warriors – 2023
1) IPL Owners Dominations – In many terms, CPL considered as ‘MINI IPL’ as well as 3 out of 6 franchisee are owned by IPL owners only. Tribago Knight Riders owned by SRK Group who owns Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, Saint Lucia Kings owned by Ness Wadia group who owns Punjab Kings in IPL and Barbados Royals owned by Raj Kundra group who owns Rajasthan Royals in IPL. Hence, we can discount the IPL style of bookmaking in CPL as well.
2) Tournament Format – CPL 2024 will be played between 6 teams across 7 venues and has in total 34 matches from 29th August to 6th October 2022. Each team will face each other 2 times in league stages (30 Matches) and the top 4 teams of the point table will progress to play-offs (4 Matches). All matches will be played in a caravan model where at a time 2 teams of 6 will serve as HOME team and other teams will play around it.
3) Match Timing – There are 2 time slots awarded for CPL 2024, 10:00 AM LOCAL (07:30 PM IST) and 07:00 PM LOCAL (04:30 AM IST). Unfortunately, this year the majority of matches are slots in early 4:30 AM IST (Next Day – Early Morning) and only 6 Matches fall in the 07:30 PM IST slot which falls on weekends only. This schedule move could cause some trouble for punters waking up early in the morning. It’s two side swords as well, more the off time match more the punter friendly matches as well.
4) Live Telecast – You can watch CPL 2024 exclusively live on TV on Star Sports network and Fan Code App with paid subscription. Punters please note that if you are planning to follow a match on Fan Code App then Fan Code will relay the telecast 1.5 balls behind; to get accurate and ball-by-ball updates you can download our own app for free. 5) Weather Impact – As the entire CPL will be played at an isolated Caribbean Island, it is advisable to have a look at the weather before the start of the match for the respective match day. This will give a bit of fair idea of how the weather will ploy and as a punter you can define your strategy around match trading.
6) CPL and Punters – Historically, CPL was considered a punter friendly league by distance. We suggest that as a punter you should focus on Trading Mindset rather than Betting Mindset to gain good profit out of it. Additionally, this year CPL has added a new team called ‘Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ and that will definitely add extra sugar in your overall trading strategies. Wait, Watch and Trade should be key to success in this year’s CPL editions.
7) Venue Details for CPL 2024 – CPL 2024 will be played across Caribbean islands 7 different venues in Caravan Carnival but home-away style, where each team will play 5 matches at their home ground and 5 matches away.
π Caravan Carnival Model – its different model than traditional Home-Away model. In this model at a time 2 venue slots will be in action and all the matches of the league will be played at 2 venue slots only. In every slot, the home team of the respective venue will complete their 5 home matches and other teams will play around them.
First Set – First 10 League Matches will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua (Home Team – Antigua and Barbuda Falcons) and Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts (Home Team – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots).
Second Set – Middle 10 League Matches will be played at Gros Islet, St Lucia (Home Team – Saint Lucia Kings) and Kensington Oval, Barbados (Home Team – Barbados Royals).
Third Set – Last 10 League Matches will be played at Providence Stadium, Guyana (Home Team – Guyana Amazon Warriors) and Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad + Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad (Home Team – Trinbago Knight Riders)
π Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua – Home Ground for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons team. Antigua has produced a good surface for batting in the past. Antigua pitch always supports runs of the board for many reasons. Low/Mediocre total will be chased easily but when total will cross to 160-65, it will be a tough task to chase it down.
Average First Inning Scores – 155/60. Total Matches Allotted – 5.
π Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts – Home Ground for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots team. St Kitts produced good sporting wickets over the period of time. Chasing team will always have an upper hand here and at night balls are flying here.
Average First Inning Scores – 160/65. Total Matches Allotted – 5.
π Gros Islet, St Lucia – Home Ground for Saint Lucia Kings team. Traditionally, true sporting wicket among all the Caribbean venues where batsmen enjoy the most. Here, we could see some high scoring chasing matches.
Average First Inning Scores – 165/70. Total Matches Allotted – 5.
π Kensington Oval, Barbados – Home Ground for Barbados Royals. Kensington Oval is one of the bluffed venues of all time (just like Lord’s). As a punter you can not predict the next things easily. Key to success at Kensington Oval is to follow the odds and at the end odds will win. Don’t try to play against the odds.
Average First Inning Scores – 155/60. Total Matches Allotted – 5.
π Providence Stadium, Guyana – Home Ground for Guyana Amazon Warriors. Providence Stadium is considered as one of the slowest wickets in the world. Big boundaries and uneven nature of the pitch makes it a nightmare for the batters. Slow and Turning pitches make Guyana a bit of a punter friendly venue by standards. Anything over 145-50 could make a game out of and punters can enjoy and gain good profit out of it.
Average First Inning Scores – 150/55. Total Matches Allotted – 5 + 4 Playoff Matches.
π Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad – Home Ground for Trinbago Knight Riders. Tarouba venue was highly criticized for its sub-standard pitches in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, even ICC rated the pitch as ‘POOR’ in their rating system. Slow and Turning pitches make Tarouba a bit of a punter friendly but bluff venue by standards. Anything over 155 could make a game out of and punters can enjoy and gain good profit out of it.
Average First Inning Scores – 155/60. Total Matches Allotted – 3
π Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad – Home Ground for Trinbago Knight Riders. Traditionally a chasing and high scoring venue. Pitch behaviour is very true over here and batsmen enjoy the hard hitting for some reason.
Average First Inning Scores – 165/70. Total Matches Allotted – 2
8) CPL Odds and Market Behaviour – Runs on the board always favours the odds in CPL as in most of the matches 160-65 considered as PAR score. There is no doubt that CPL has their own backyards ingredients of power-hitter batters but still market and odds start favours first bat when score is reaching to par score. In CPL strong bowling attacks have always had an upper hand as league progress. In past years, CPL has almost 55-45% of ratio when it comes to Chase v Defend comparisons that suggest and prove that backing chasing teams blindly could hamper your pocket.
9) Team Antigua and Barbuda Falcons – There is always a challenge of building a strong team whenever a new team is introduced in any league, the same issue happened with the Team Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. They have tried to build a good team but have fallen in a couple of departments as; proven captain, genuine finisher and pace bowling department. Key to success for Team Antigua and Barbuda Falcons is to bat first and try to defend with spin attack.
π Team Strength – Brandon King, Sam Billings and Overseas Spin Bowling Attack
π Team Weakness – Pace Bowling and Lack of genuine finisher
10) Team St Kitts and Nevis Patriots – St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who finished bottom last season with just a solitary win in ten games, look much stronger this season, at least on paper, especially after having signed the South Africa trio of Tristan Stubbs, Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi. They have also recruited big-hitting allrounder Odean Smith, who was transferred from Amazon Warriors. Opener Evin Lewis will look to prove a point after having last played for West Indies in the 2022 T20 World Cup. He is set to open the batting with allrounder Kyle Mayers, who was Patriots' first pick at the draft.
π Team Strength – Well balanced side with strong core of international players
π Team Weakness – Some South African players could leave the league in the middle as they have series from 18th September with Afghanistan and Ireland.
11) Team Saint Lucia Kings – Saint Lucia Kings look not much impressive team on paper. Team is over reliant on Faf du Plessis and the middle/lower order looks a bit conservative here. Team has a well pace bowling attack but a genuine match winner spinner is missing.
π Team Strength – Faf du Plessis and Pace Bowling
π Team Weakness – Missing West Indies hard hitter as finisher and Spin Bowling
12) Team Barbados Royals – Barbados Royals are considered as RCB of CPL. This team has a tendency to produce some magic from nowhere and have capabilities to win or lose a match from any condition. On paper it looks a bit of a stable side having a proven match winner like Rovman Powell, QdK, and Jason Holder in their side. Rahkeem Cornwall again will act as their power play trump card.
π Team Strength – Rovman Powell as captain and Solid International players
π Team Weakness – Chokers Tag and Pace Bowling
13) Team Guyana Amazon Warriors – In every CPL season, the Guyana team comes with a special tag line as ‘Nothing to lose, everything to gain’. However, last year they won the CPL title for the first time and crossed the line successfully. This year also has no difference in terms of team, looks like a solid core mix of West Indian and International overseas players with Tahir Chachu once again will lead the bowling attack and team.
π Team Strength – Well balanced side in all department with proven all-rounder’s and proven track record of defend any total
π Team Weakness – Pace Bowling
14) Team Trinbago Knight Riders – TKR is the most successful team of CPL having won the title 4 times. One can compare TKR with MI in terms of nature and betting strategy outcomes. On paper it looks a solid team as always and this year as well TKR started with CPL as favourites to win the title fifth time. Our valuable suggestion to punter is to play TKR’s match with extra caution as this team will open heavy favourites each time and market will ploy the odds with full bluff.
π Team Strength – Strong spin bowling and well balance side with genuine finisher
π Team Weakness – Pace bowling – Missing genuine fast bowler who can bowl with Ali Khan
15) Good Team – Trinbago Knight Riders
16) Bluff Team – Saint Lucia Kings
17) Dark Horse Team – Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots
18) Punter Friendly Team – Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors
19) Chase V Defend Jackpot Scenarios – Overall punter will witness more on chase jackpot scenarios. Historically, Defend jackpot will give you a good amount of trading but chase jackpot will give a chance of encash full profit. As per our prediction with CPL 12, we could witness more chase jackpot on the cards. So, as a punter, whenever you find a strong team in a nervous situation in the second innings, you can chase the jackpot in style by backing them on high odds.
20) Punter Friendly Venue – Kensington Oval, Barbados; Providence Stadium, Guyana
21) Bluff Venue – Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua; Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad
22) Average Venue – Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts; Gros Islet, St Lucia
23) Caravan Carnival Model and Punters – Before starting trading in CPL, as a punter you have to first look at the schedule and venues in detail and try to understand hidden gems in it. In the Caravan Carnival model at a time 2 venues come into play in which the home team will play their half of CPL during that 10 match slot. Here is the trick to catch where one home team will play consistently good cricket and another do the opposite and in between some unexpected will comes to the party. Simple mantra is be with a good home team during the phase and earn profit out of it.
24) Trading is the key to success in CPL – Historically, CPL gives good trading odds rather than sticking to one team. As a punter, focus on odds movement and find your trading in the match; 1-2 good wickets in the middle could give 50-50p trading within minutes which is equal to 1rs. Don’t stick with teams as Windies players are un-predictable as any; wherever you find good profit, save your books first and then wait for second possible trades.
25) CPL Session Hack – If you are session lovers then we suggest that you don't touch the first 6 over session because historically the first 6 over session always bluffs with punters (in major case NO). Rather focus on LAMBI because in most of the cases LAMBI will pass by distance (considering hard hitting habits of Windies players). Hence, the key to success in a session is to focus on 20 over LAMBI sessions and earn good profit out of it.
26) Our Pick for Punter Friendly Matches – Antigua and Barbuda Falcons vs Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Guyana Amazon Warriors, Saint Lucia Kings v Barbados Royals, Barbados Royals vs Trinbago Knight Riders, Guyana Amazon Warriors v Trinbago Knight Riders, Barbados Royals vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Saint Lucia Kings, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Royals
27) Our Pick for Top 4 Finish – Guyana Amazon Warriors, Trinbago Knight Riders, Barbados Royals, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots
28) Early Morning Matches – As we mentioned earlier in our points, early morning matches could be a blessing for punters. Our simple reason is that every league wants more and more TRP (Thanks to IPL blockbuster broadcasting rights) and Box Office crowd. For TRP, you need a good entertaining match and for that match it has to be interesting and that could lead to odds fluctuation and that fluctuation gives punters a profit. Here, early morning (odd timing matches) will give full licence to do that as LOAD on book will be half in that time and that could give good chance to earn good profit (specially small punters)
29) Overall CPL Predictions – Overall we will predict this CPL is bit punter friendly in respect of previous years CPL. We could see below things in this year’s CPL as below;
π Match Winning Trends – First Bat Wins 35-40%, Chase Wins 65-60%
π Match Types – 8 – 10 Jackpot Matches, 10 – 12 Trading Matches, 6 – 8 Straight Matches (Excluding Playoffs)
π Jackpot Types – Defend Jackpots – 35%, Chase Jackpot – 50%, Trading Jackpot – 15%
So this is all about 'CPL 2024'. As per our standards, we have tried to share all possible things in detail to ensure as a punter you have clear idea on most of the important aspects like CPL history, Venue Analysis, Team Strengths, Caravan Style, Odds Behaviour and some special Tips/Tricks that helps you to make good profit out of CPL 2024.
Additionally – We often hear about bookmaker related fraud in the market, sometimes when you are on a good winning note, a bookmaker refuses to release or withdraw your winning amount. This leads to further frustration to punter and act as salt on wounds. To avoid such things, it is better to play at your city’s local bookmaker only, in the worst case if you are unable to find genuine bookmakers around you with 24X7 service then you can choose and trust on our own product ‘Khan Dada Online Hub’.
