In fairy-tale of Arabian Knights there is a 'Genie' who fulfil your 3 wishes only but in today’s world of UAE aka Dubai all your wishes comes true if you have enough firepower in your pocket – That’s how UAE has shaped themselves beyond the oil market and show the entire world with example set on becoming Global Trade Centre irrespective of field, business, infrastructure and technology.
How Cricket was Started in the Desert? – The name is 'Abdul Rahman Bukhatir'. He is known as Kerry Packer of the Gulf region. He transformed Sharjah Cricket Stadium, from a stadium in the desert, to one of the historic and Guinness Book of World Records-holder cricket grounds. In 1981, he organised a cricket match between Gavaskar XI and Miandad XI at Sharjah which saw a grand commercial success and that led to an idea of having an Asian team’s tournament.
In 1983 finally succeeded with the foundation of ACC (Asian Cricket Councils) as subordinate to the ICC (International Cricket Councils) and ACC started to act as a continent's regional administrative body. A dream that started with a long term vision finally comes true after 40 years and UAE are going to launch their own private T20 league where UAE is still playing cricket as an associate member of ICC – It’s an incredible journey and achievement!
1) League Formats – DP World ILT20 will run from January 13, 2023 to February 12, 2023. All six teams play against each other in Double Round-Robin. After the Double Round-Robin, the top four teams in the points table will qualify for the next round of the playoffs. If two teams have equal points, then the qualification will be based on run rate (NRR). There are a total of 34 matches in the first edition of DP World ILT20 League, out of which 30 are group stage matches, 3 playoffs and 1 grand finale. In the grand finale, the winning team is crowned the champion.
2) Playing 11 Rules – Nine out of eleven players on each team can be overseas players, which will be significantly higher than the four or five overseas-player-limit of other major T20 leagues. Two players on each team must be a UAE player and a player from an Associate Member nation respectively. This rule will majorly impact on team combination; Squad that have solid UAE and Associate signing will always have an upper hand and they can build best 11 around for the match day.
3) Match Timing – Match timings are best suited for Indian viewers as it starts at 7:30 PM IST. When there will be a double header in that case match timing is 3:30 PM IST for the first match and 7:30 PM IST for the second match.

5) Weather Challenge – We are in deserts and there are no weather related challenges in UAE. Rain is considered as ‘LAGANAA JACKPOT’ in UAE; but instead of RAIN, you must check the Desert Storm forecast (Especially in Sharjah).
6) Venue and Ground Stats – DP World ILT20 will be hosted by UAE across three venues as Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi as below 👇
👉 Dubai Ground – Statically, Dubai Ground has a good reputation on supporting chasing teams due to ground dimensions and pitch behaviours. Anything between 165-175 is considered as par score and makes the match colourful. As far as punting is concerned, backing and supporting, chasing a total will give better profit. Home ground for Dubai Capitals; Total number of matches allotted to Dubai Ground are 16 or in other words 50% of matches will be played at Dubai Ground only.
👉 Sharjah Ground – At times Sharjah ground is considered as batting paradise where no total is SAFE, but in the past couple of years due to pitch changes, (New curator and Pitch prepared), overall behaviour and par score act in very weird fashion. Par score, which was earlier around 180+, now days back to the range of 150-60. As far as punting is concerned, be very careful in Sharjah’s matches (Especially in Sessions) as blind bluffs will wait for you. Home ground for Sharjah Warriors; Total number of matches allotted to Sharjah Ground are 8.
👉 Abu Dhabi Ground – Abu Dhabi is a venue where bowlers licking their lips and enjoy the spin and swings. Abu Dhabi pitch offers a good contest between bat, ball, and supports the first bat team by far margin. Average Par score is 155-65; thanks to bigger square boundaries and big dimensions of ground. Strong bowling team always has an upper hand at Abu Dhabi and that’s key to success for defending a par or average score. Home ground for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders; Total number of Matches allotted are 10.
7) Team Abu Dhabi Knight Riders – Abu Dhabi Knight Riders has done a good job in team building. This team has every ingredient that suits Abu Dhabi ground and pitches where they are going to play half of their matches. Team has a strong bowling attack but they are a bit short on the batting department. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have strength on defending a total but for high chase, they are over reliant on Russell for finishing the game and that may hurt them and punters badly.
8) Team Desert Vipers – Desert Viper is a team with all players that can be tagged as 'Chinese Players' – Either it would be My Way to Pillion or All the way to Express Highway. Team has power packed batting lined up but in the bowling department, they are a bit short before Hasaranga joins the team after an initial couple of matches. Chase will be key to success for Desert Vipers and they might find short on defending small/mediocre totals as the tournament progresses.
9) Team Dubai Capitals – Dubai Capital is a team of a mixture of tiny but highly experienced individuals who helps to win a match from any situation. Rovman Powell has already impressed with his captainship ability in this years concluded CPL where he leads Jamaica Tallawahs to clinch a title. One good thing about Dubai Capitals is that they have tons of experience available in their dugout (Utthapa, Yusuf Pathan, Joe Root) and guidance of these champion individuals will definitely help them to take the team to the next level.
10) Team Gulf Giants – Gulf Giants looks like full of bluff team on paper even though they have a one of the great coach like Andy Flower but, on the other side of the coin they are carrying biggest 'PANOTI COMBO' of Vince and Lynn that scares me the most as a punter. Gulf Giants have enough firepower in their batting but bowling looks very weak considering the UAE ground pitches. Punters, be extra cautious with this team as they might hurt your pocket with high losses.
11) Team MI Emirates – Team MI Emirates reminds me of 'Deadly Army’s of Dads' (Like CSK of IPL). There is no second invitation required to explain the MI Emirates as it’s a team of legends of T20’s. One thing that is good about MI Emirates is that they have good signing of UAE and Associates players like Muhammad Waseem, Zahoor Khan and Basil Hameed. These are the key signings considering 2 players will occupy the playing 11 and that helps MI Emirates to build a strong playing 11.
12) Team Sharjah Warriors – On paper Sharjah Warriors looks weakest team among all but sometimes pocket size dynamos can do big blasts and that is the same we expect with Sharjah Warriors team. Yes, they have no big name in their kitty but they have good individuals who can ruin anyone’s party on their day. There is nothing much to say about Sharjah Warriors but this team could be one off punters friendly team where punters can enjoy good trading in Sharjah Warriors matches.
13) Chase V Defend Ratio – Overall, we will see chase will have an upper hand considering the UAE pitches behaviour. However, that will not allow blindly put your trade on chase but rather put on team strength, situation and venue. As per our analysis, we could witness 65-35% ratio in Chase V Defend and high chance of more off chase JP then defend.
