ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 | Captain’s Quest for Final Countdown

We're leaving' together

But still it's farewell

And maybe we'll come back

To Earth, who can tell?

I guess there is no one to blame

We're leaving ground (leaving ground)

Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown

The final countdown

As the countdown begins for 2024, a captain’s quest for the final countdown will also count on as its FINAL COUNTDOWN of conquering the world and it takes just ONE DAY to count on to conquer it!

Since ancient times ruling over the world has been considered as rulers ultimate prize, feat and destination. From the mighty Pharaohs of ancient Egypt to the audacious Genghis Khan and the unstoppable Alexander the Great to the British's East India Company, these world conquerors left an indelible mark on history. Now we are living in modern time in more civilized manner that insured by international law but conquering the world still in blood of humans and to achieve that we are not fighting on war field but instead use GROUND/OPEN AREA as WAR FIELD and SPORTS as a WEAPON. Olympics, Common Wealth Games, Asian Games, FIFA World Cup and Cricket World Cup are the WEAPONS (sports) we are using to stamp an individual or country’s authority over the world.

1) History of 50 Over World Cup – The first World Cup was organised in England in June 1975, majorly thanks to the Women's World Cup which was held two year prior to the men's world cup and got much applause and interest from around the world that led to the idea organise men’s world cup. (We often says that behind every successful men, there is a women; here it is WOMEN again); Since 1975 Men’s world cup organised in at interval of every four year (except 1992, 1999) to make it once in a four year marque events just like other sports discipline like Olympics, FIFA WC etc..

2) Past Winners of 50 Over World Cup – Australia is the most successful team among all who have won the 50 over world cup for 5 times, infect the only team who have won the 50 over world cup in every continent of world (1987 – Asia, 1999 – Europe, 2003 – Africa, 2007 – Americas, 2015 – Australia) that makes their tally as conquered the world. West Indies and India have won the 50 over world cup twice whereas Pakistan, Sri Lanka and defending champion England have won it once. South Africa and New Zealand have tried their best and come inches closer to winning the 50 over world cup but their quest for the cup is still only a quest.

2023 50 Over World Cup is 13th Edition of the 50 over world cup that starts from 5th October 2023 and Final will be played on 19th November 2023; England will enter in the 50 over world cup as defending champion and host country is India.

4) ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Rules – There are some rules for every tournament and from a punter's angle it’s wise to understand the rules in detail.

👉 DRS – DRS (Decision Review System) will be applicable in all matches of the 2023 50 over world cup where each team has 2 successful reviews allowed per inning.

👉 Tie Matches – There will be no Super Over in league stage for tie; Team will share 1-1 points each in case of tie during league stage matches. If ties happen in knock-out matches then Super Over will be played to determine the winner; in case of super over tied another super over will be played to determine the winner.

👉 Slow Overrate Penalty – After introducing a penalty for slow over rates in T20Is, the ICC has decided to bring the in-match penalty into play in ODIs too. For each over the fielding team falls short by at the scheduled cessation time of the innings, after taking time allowances into play, they must have an additional fielder inside the ring. For example, if a team completes only 48 overs when their stipulated time runs out, the last two overs must be bowled with just four fielders outside the ring. In general 3 hrs 40 minutes are allotted to each bowling team to complete their 50 overs (excluding injury/rain break).

👉 Reserve Day – There will be no reserve day in league stage matches; in case of a match is abandoned team will share 1-1 points each. For knock-out matches there is a provision of reserve day, if reserve day also wash out then the team with higher rank will table declare as winner and proceed.

👉 Semi-Final Rules – If Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals, they will play in Kolkata only; If India qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play in Mumbai unless playing against Pakistan, in which case they will play in Kolkata only.

5) Weather Challenges – In general October-November are considered as winter opening seasons in India but as an extended monsoon arrives it’s wise to have a look at a weather once for each match day specially coastal area venues like Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata.

7) Venue Details – ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played at as many as 10 different venues across the India and details of the venue, characteristics, pitch behaviour, par scores are as below;

👉 Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad – Previously known as Sardar Patel Stadium (Motera); after renovation NAMO stadium is world largest cricket stadium in the world having a sitting capacity of 110K. NAMO stadium will host the inaugural match of the world cup and the final as well. Total Matches allotted to NAMO Stadium – 5. Some of the interesting stats of ground as; PITCH – There are as many as 11 different pitches are there in newly constructed NAMO stadium having mix of black and red soil pitches, in general pitch will be batter friendly and could be a graveyard for the bowler; AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 275-85; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 55/45%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 325/5 by West Indies against India in 2002.

👉Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai – Wankhede Stadium considered as India’s one of the oldest cricket stadiums and produced memorable matches in the past (including 2011 50 Over WC Final). Total Matches allotted to Wankhede Stadium – 5 (including semi-final). PITCH – It’s BATA Wicket, It’s Highway..Nothing to say more about Wankhede’s Pitch, with the small dimensions of the ground batters are enjoying the most here, most captains will prefer to chase at Wankhede considering the smaller boundaries, flat wickets, due factor etc; AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 285-300; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 45/55%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 284/4 by New Zealand against India in 2017.

👉 Eden Gardens, Kolkata – An iconic Eden Gardens witnesses a lots of glory matches including 1987 Cricket World Cup Final (A famous mike getting’s sweep shot that swaps England’s world cup dream), Hero Cup Final (Anil Kumble’s magical spell of 6/12 v West Indies), 2016 T20 World Cup Final (Remember the Name ‘Carlos Brathwaite’). Total Matches allotted to Eden Gardens – 5 (including semi-final). PITCH – In past Eden Gardens wicket considered as true wicket that supports bowler more than batter but in recent times (after renovation) pitch becomes a batters paradise, with the small dimensions of the ground batters are enjoying the most here, most captains will prefer to chase at Eden Gardens considering the smaller boundaries, flat wickets, due factor etc; AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 275-285; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 55/45%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 317/3 by Sri Lanka against India in 2009.

👉 MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai – MA Chidambaram Stadium aka Chepauk is one of the venues of India where bowler and bat first teams enjoy the most. It’s still a venue where we can witness a proper bat v ball contest in many terms and one of the punter friendly venues as well. Total Matches allotted to MA Chidambaram Stadium – 5. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 265-275; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 65/35%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 291/2 by West Indies against India in 2019.

👉M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru – Bengaluru has produced jaw dropping WC matches in the past including the famous India V Pakistan QF match of 1996 World Cup. At Bengaluru, no total is considered as safe as ball flying here and due adds additional benefit for chasing team. It’s high scoring ground and punter friendly ground as well. Punters have to be wise and be patience to get profit. Total Matches allotted to M.Chinnaswamy Stadium – 5. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 300-310; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 50/50%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 329/7 by Ireland against England in 2011.

👉ArunJaitley Stadium, Delhi – Delhi is one of the boring and bluff venues of India. Punters often feel bluffed and cheated when they put their in Delhi’s matches. Our valuable suggestion to punters is to be extra cautious when a match is played at Delhi otherwise you will lose a big chunk of money. Total Matches allotted to ArunJaitley Stadium – 5. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 260-280; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 55/45%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 281/4 by Sri Lanka against India in 1982.

👉 Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad – Hyderabad is one the punter friendly venue, whether defending a low total or chasing; Hyderabad never disappointed punters. Typically, bat first venue and odds also favour bat first time for these reasons. If punters apply their minds they will get a good profit from this venue. Total Matches allotted to Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium – 3. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 280-290; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 65/35%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 252/5 by South Africa against India in 2005.

👉 HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala – Dharmasala is one of newly added venue to roster and not much ODi played here, but considering IPL matches we could predict that fast bowler will enjoy here, typically high scoring ground and chase could be easy as due will play major ploy in the play. Total Matches allotted to HPCA Stadium – 5. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 270-280; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 20/80%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 227/3 by England against India in 2013.

👉 MCA Stadium, Pune – Pune’s venue is as unpredictable as Pune’s weather yet punter friendly. At this venue key to success is to lay the fav team at low odds (exactly the same as what punters do) and enjoy the magic; 9/10 times this tactic will earn a good profit to you. Total Matches allotted to MCA Stadium – 5. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 300-310; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 35/65%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 356/7 by India against England in 2017.

👉Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow – Just like Dharamsala, Lucknow is also a newly added venue to roster and not much ODi played here but considering IPL matches we could predict that spin/slow bowlers would like the most here as pitches are slow and dark. First bat and runs on the board will have an advantage here as chasing wouldn’t be as easy as at other venues. We might see good defending jackpots at this venue. Total Matches allotted to Ekana Cricket Stadium – 5. AVG FIRST INNG TOTAL – 250-260; BAT First Vs BAT Second Winning Ratio – 50/50%; Highest Run Chase Achieved – 253/5 by West Indies against Afghanistan in 2019.

8) Team India – Just like 2011, After all the experiments finally India has ticked every box before moving to the world cup, entering to the world cup as one of the favourites. On/Off paper strongest teams of the world cup having a balanced and backup in each department. Key to success for India is to stick to their basics and don’t do anything special.

👉 Team Strength – Well Balanced Side with powerful Pace and Spin Attack

👉 Team Weakness – Part time bowler and genuine finisher at no 7

9) Team Australia – You can not discount Australia when it comes to talking about the 50 over world cup as Australia knows how to win a world cup then anyone in the world. They might look a bit scratchy to start with but they will pick their momentum as the tournament will progress. Key to success for Australia is their pace attack and Maxwell’s valuable contribution as a genuine all-rounder.

👉 Team Strength – Anyone can produce big-match performance from no-where, Pace Attack and Maxwell’s all-round ability

👉 Team Weakness – Vulnerable batting against spin and Carey as keeper batter

10) Team England – England will enter into the world cup as defending champs; with the fact that no other than West Indies and Australia has successfully defended their titles in the past and England would definitely love to be third team to do so. Just like India, England has also covered all the bases and comes with a well-balanced side. Key to success for England is to stick their basics and don’t do anything special.

👉 Team Strength – Well Balanced Side with powerful Pace Attack

👉 Team Weakness – Ben Stokes will play as batter only, Joe Root’s form and Vulnerable batting against spin

11) Team Pakistan – To write anything about Pakistan's cricket team is the biggest crime as destiny will always write-off whatever you write/think about Pakistan team. On one day Pakistan team could thrill you with their performance and on another day they played like a state team, showing the unpredictable nature of this team. But things have slightly changed since Babar Azam took charge of the team. Key to success for Pakistan solely depends on their pace bowler performance.

👉 Team Strength – Predictable yet Unpredictable, Powerful Pace Attack and Babar Azam’s Form and Captainship

👉 Team Weakness – Opener/Middle Lower order batting, More reliant on Babar Azam/Rizwan, Spin Bowling and Genuine finisher at no 7

12) Team New Zealand – New Zealand will never disappoint you when it comes to the world cup. A truly DARK HORSE team that never won a world cup yet but won a heart every time when they finished with the tournament. New Zealand was never considered as playing a flamboyant kind of cricket but they play consistent cricket with discipline and maturity. Kane Williamson (the only captain who led the side from 2019’s bench) brings extra maturity to the team with his leadership skills. New Zealand is always considered as a bat first side, they like to bat first, put runs on the board and defend it later with their disciplined bowling attack. Key to success for New Zealand is solely depend on Kane Williamsons form and pace bowlers performance.

👉 Team Strength – Pace bowling attack, Kane Williamson’s Captainship and Discipline cricket

👉 Team Weakness – Middle Lower order batting, Vulnerable batting against spin and Genuine finisher at no 7

13) Team Sri Lanka – Since the exit of MahelaJayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lanka cricket never matches up with the modern days cricketing demand. In patches they have done well (like winning the Asia Cup last year) but overall the Sri Lanka team is a very vulnerable and inconsistent team. WaninduHasaranga had definitely injected some energy into the team but once again the team looks very weak as Hasaranga is also ruled out due to injury. There is nothing much to say about the Sri Lanka team as there is not much volume to speak about it. Key to success for Sri Lanka is solely dependent on their batters' performance and Shanaka has to step up as leader and lead from the front with his batting ability.

👉 Team Strength – Nissanka/KusalMendis Form, Spin Bowling

👉 Team Weakness – Inconsistent Batting Performance, Shanaka’s Form as a batter and captain

14) Team South Africa – There are teams who lose the match, there are other teams who won the match but South Africa is the only team who Choke the match. South Africa enters the World Cup with a series win under their belt and lots of promise. This time is also the same, they have won an ODi series 3-2 from trailing series 0-2 and on paper once again they look like a strong unit who can beat any team in the world. Key success for South Africa is that they have to win big matches to progress in the tournament otherwise it will be another world cup for South Africa that ends with the famous tag of ‘CHOKERS’.

👉 Team Strength – Strong Middle/Lower Order and Pace Attack

👉 Team Weakness – Bavuma’s Captainship, Big Match losers and Spin Attack

15) Team Bangladesh – Bangladesh has been playing cricket for more than 3 decades and is still considered as a minnow and sometimes they perform below then associate teams. Bangladesh is entering this world cup with lots of on and off field issues like the team's recent form, team combination, last minute political changes and many more. Bangladesh batting as usual looks very weak and their captain’s form is also in question. Shakib has to lead the team with example and if he does well we could see a different Bangladesh side altogether. Bangladesh needs a big miracle to progress further in the world cup. Key to success for Bangladesh is that they have to find a way to win matches against big teams.

👉 Team Strength – Spin bowling and Shakib’s Form

👉 Team Weakness – Inconsistent Batting Performance

16) Team Afghanistan – Afghanistan had played their first 50 over world cup in 2015 and since then this team has impressed a lot to everyone in the cricket fraternity. Afghanistan is a mix of individual genuine match winners that can turn the match on its own from any position. However, Afghanistan would like to forget the mistakes that they made in the 2019 50 over world cup where they have lost nearly 4 matches which they deserve to win. Key to success for Afghanistan is that they have to fire in the batting department and put runs on the board as they have enough strength in their bowling that they can defend the runs and they have to learn to chase the totals as well.

👉 Team Strength – Best spin attack of tournament, Individual match winners

👉 Team Weakness – Pace Bowling, Chasing a total, Middle/Lower order

17) Team Netherlands – Netherlands coming into this world cup with a couple of miracle wins in the qualifier tournament. Netherland had first played their 50 over world cup in 1996 and last was in 2011. Netherlands always do well in qualifying tournaments but couldn’t replicate the same in the world cup, they have won only 2 world cup matches out of 20 that they have played and that too against the associate’s team. Key to success for the Netherlands is that they start believing that they belong to big tournaments like the 50 over world cup.

👉 Team Strength – Strong middle order with mix of all-rounders and Scott Edwards captainship

👉 Team Weakness – Vulnerable batting against spin and Spin Bowling

18) 50 Over World Cup and Punters – History suggests that the 50 over world cup was never a punter friendly tournament in many terms and 2019th edition of 50 over world cup was an exceptional case where we have seen a good number of punter friendly matches. We suggest punters to apply their mind while doing trading in world cup matches, don’t try to chase jackpots n all rather chase match situation, team combination and put your trade wisely. In 80% of the matches you will see the result of the match as per the odds movement by market.

19) Key to Success for 50 Over Match Trading – Patience is the key to success for 50 over match trading. Nowadays, T20 has ruled the cricketing fraternities, fans and punters by a big margin. Our mind set is not able to cope-up with the long and boring 50 over format. We would like to suggest that punters should focus on the first 10-12 overs and the last 10-12 overs of the match. Middle period of a 50 over match is purely made for bookies so stay away from it as far as session and match odds are concerned. You will observe that in 8/10 cases matches turn on their head in the last 10-12 overs only; so wait for an opportunity and trade wisely.

20) Session Rules Match Odds – This is the thing we as a team have observed for a long time. Now a day’s session load on the overall market is as huge as mountains and that makes match odds load negligible. Some examples are; you often see match turns from very low odds and the major reason for that is the advance session open in the market (specially in the second inning), here, market has nothing to do with match odds as overall load on session is killing the match odds. Hence, we suggest when a session is in their BULLISH run don’t dare to put money on NOT, rather put money on match odds, you will definitely get some handsome return of the investment.

21) Chase V Defend Dilemma – Punters are always confused between chase and defend (especially in big tournaments like World Cup). Don’t bluff yourself in chase and defend the dilemma in fact check with the team, ground, pitch condition and then decide. Nowadays in ODi 300/320 considering as par total (the way these batters are playing) and market odds are also adjusted based on the team strength. Due factor will also be considerably high in night time that also helps for chasing sides. In short, a big total may defend against a strong side as well, but it will be difficult to defend anything below 250 in Indian conditions. We predict overall chase would have an upper hand in this world cup with 65-35% in respect of chase v defend.

22) Minnow teams Magic at World Cup – We as a punter often discount minnow teams (small teams like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka etc) and put focus on big matches only. But the fact is as a punter you will get more profit in minnow/smaller teams matches. If you add TRP logic then, there will be TRP in big matches irrespective of whether the match is straight or punter friendly (Ex. First match of WC is between England v New Zealand, there will be huge TRP) whereas in minnow teams matches TRP is bit down and to lift the TRP we often see good matches of minnow teams.

23) Session’s Dilemma – We always suggest that you don't waste your time, energy and money in a session but still if you want to play a session then focus on the first 10 over session and last 10 over session. Leave middle sessions to bookies and enjoy the game. As mentioned earlier, middle overs of the game are purely built for bookies and that part is a bit boring as well, 8/10 times punters lose money in middle overs sessions.

24) High Scoring Venues – Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata

25) Punter Friendly Venues – Chennai, Pune, Lucknow

26) Un-Predictable Venues – Ahmedabad, Dharamsala

27) Bluff Venues – Delhi, Hyderabad

28) Good Teams – India, England, Australia

29) Bluff Teams – Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa

30) Punter Friendly/Dark Horse Teams – Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan

31) Top 4 Finish – India, Pakistan, Australia, England

32) Advance Points for Punters – We request each punter to read and understand the minute details of the Advance Points, if you take it and mix all the points with permutation and combination then you will have a clear picture of the tournament and how it will behave. It’s not just an advanced point but a holistic view of the ICC 2023 World Cup.

Additionally – We often hear about bookmaker related fraud in the market, sometimes when you are on a good winning note, a bookmaker refuses to release or withdraw your winning amount. This leads to further frustration to punter and act as salt on wounds. To avoid such things, it is better to play at your city’s local bookmaker only, in worst case if you are unable to find genuine bookmakers around you with 24X7 service then you can choose and trust on our own product ‘Khan Dada Online Hub’.
