Afghanistan Cricket Board Optimistic About Rashid Khan's Return Boosting Home Matches
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is hopeful that the return of star spinner Rashid Khan to the national team will pave the way for the hosting of international matches on Afghan soil. Khan’s presence is seen as a major boost to the country’s cricket ambitions and could entice other cricketing nations to tour Afghanistan. With wars and political unrests looming the country, the other teams haven’t been too keen to visit Afghanistan off late.
Afghanistan’s current home venue is India where the side is expected to play a couple of games. As for Rashid Khan, the ace all-rounder paid a visit to his country earlier this year before the T20 World Cup after a span of 3 years.
ACB believes that after hosting the SCL and another tournament prior to it, they can showcase to the World that Afghanistan is ready to host it’s matches.
ACB chief executive Naseeb Khan told, “Rashid Khan’s participation in domestic cricket reflects several positive changes in Afghanistan. Rashid’s involvement in domestic cricket highlights improvements in security and current peace in Afghanistan.”
“Before the Shpageeza Cricket League, we organized the List A event in Kunduz province, far from Kabul, with the participation of about 20 national players. Successfully hosting the list A and Shpageeza events in a peaceful environment also serves as an invitation for other countries’ cricket teams to visit and play in Afghanistan,” he said.
