Karnataka triumphed over Vidarbha by 36 runs in the final of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, held at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, claiming their record fifth title. Led by Mayank Agarwal, Karnataka finished the group stage with only one loss in seven matches. They secured their place in the final after defeating Baroda and Haryana in the knockout rounds.
In the final match, Karnataka posted an impressive total of 348 runs, thanks to a crucial century from RavichandranSmaran, who scored 101 runs. Vidarbha, unbeaten throughout the tournament until this point, managed to score 312 runs in response. Karnataka’s victory marked their first title win in over five years.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy, originally known as the Ranji One Day Trophy since its inception in the 2002-03 season, was rebranded before the 2007-08 season. Alongside Karnataka, only Tamil Nadu (3), Mumbai (2), and Saurashtra (2) have multiple titles in this competition.
Former Karnataka batter Karun Nair emerged as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 779 runs, while Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh topped the bowling charts with 20 wickets. This victory reinforces Karnataka’s status as a dominant force in Indian domestic cricket.
