After 5-wicket haul in Rajkot, Varun Chakravarthy breaks into top 5 of T20I rankings

Varun Chakravarthy has made a remarkable ascent in the ICC T20I bowling rankings, climbing 25 places to secure the fifth position following his outstanding performance in the ongoing series against England. The mystery spinner achieved a career-best rating of 679 points after taking 10 wickets in just three matches, including a stunning five-wicket haul in the third T20I at Rajkot.

In that match, Chakravarthy’s figures of 4 overs, 24 runs, and 5 wickets helped restrict England to 171 runs. He dismissed key players, including captain Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. Despite his impressive bowling, India fell short in the chase, losing by 26 runs.

Chakravarthy is now one of only three Indian bowlers to claim multiple five-wicket hauls in T20Is, joining the ranks of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav. Since his return to the national team after a hiatus following the 2022 T20 World Cup, he has taken 27 wickets from just 10 matches.

His resurgence has positioned him as a vital asset for India’s T20 setup as they prepare for future challenges. With his exceptional form, Chakravarthy is expected to play a crucial role in upcoming international fixtures and potentially the T20 World Cup in 2026.
