After Capitulation In Australia, Rohit Sharma And Co. Mocked As ‘White Ball Bullies’

The question of whether the Indian cricket team needs a complete overhaul has gained traction following their disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they lost to Australia 3-1. After winning the first Test in Perth, India faltered in the subsequent matches, missing out on a chance to qualify for the World Test Championship final. This series also saw significant changes, including RavichandranAshwin’s retirement and Rohit Sharma’s decision to drop himself from the playing XI.

Former India star Mohammad Kaif voiced his concerns, stating that India has lost its status as a top Test side. He emphasized that while India may excel in white-ball cricket, winning the Champions Trophy against Pakistan on February 23 will not address the underlying issues in Test cricket. Kaif pointed out that players need to adapt to different conditions, particularly on turning and seaming tracks, to succeed in Test matches.

He criticized players for prioritizing rest over domestic competitions like the Ranji Trophy, which are essential for honing skills. Kaif believes that this recent defeat should serve as a wake-up call for Indian cricket, urging a renewed focus on developing a robust Test team capable of competing at the highest level. Without significant changes and commitment to improving in red-ball cricket, he warns that India’s aspirations for future success in the World Test Championship will remain elusive.
