Cricket is a team game that requires all 11 players to function as a cohesive unit for success. Ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener against Australia in Perth, India’s fielding coach T Dilip introduced a unique drill to enhance team bonding and fielding skills. The drill involved players aligning in different positions for a relay throw, emphasizing teamwork and precision.
In this exercise, fielders were stationed at various spots on the field. A boundary fielder initiated the drill by throwing the ball to a teammate positioned closer to the pitch, who then aimed to hit the stumps. The practice aimed to replace single long throws with two sharp, flat throws for greater accuracy.
A video of the session captured an amusing exchange between Virat Kohli and a teammate. When a teammate suggested encouraging each other, Kohli humorously replied, “Kyu karein? Aur kam maaro udhar” (Why should we? Throw it more towards them).
Coach T Dilip expressed satisfaction with the session, highlighting the players’ positive response and energy. “The drill focused on bringing everyone together while refining boundary retrieval skills. The players showed great intensity, and the competition added fun and engagement to the session,” he said.
