Ahead of IPL 2025 Worry for RCB as injured Jacob Bethell doubtful for Champions Trophy

Jacob Bethell’s hamstring injury has put his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy in doubt and is a concern for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who acquired him for Rs 2.60 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 21-year-old sustained the left hamstring injury during the first ODI against India.

Bethell has been ruled out of the remaining ODI series against India, and Tom Banton has been called up as cover. Further assessment of Bethell’s injury is scheduled upon the team’s arrival in Ahmedabad.

Despite a poor showing in the T20I series against India, Bethell scored 51 in the first ODI, rescuing England from a batting collapse. He has been recognized as a breakout star for England, performing well across formats. Before the injury, Bethell spoke positively about joining RCB and expressed excitement about playing with top players and experiencing the fan support. Banton, who last played for England in an ODI in August 2020, is in excellent form, leading the run charts in the ILT20.
