Alex Carey believes the Australian cricket team is “primed” and “ready” to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the first Test against India kicks off at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Friday. While speaking, Carey expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.
“I think we are primed, we’re ready,” Carey said. “This is a really consistent group of players we’ve had in the Test team over the past few years, and I’m excited to see them in action on Friday.”
Carey acknowledged India’s strength, even as they recover from a series loss to New Zealand. “They’re a really good cricket team, so they’ll be looking to bounce back. They have great form in Australia, so this is a fantastic opportunity for our group to win back the Border-Gavaskar trophy.”
India will be missing key players Rohit Sharma, who stayed in India for the birth of his second child, and Shubman Gill, who is out due to injury. Carey, however, praised India’s depth, saying, “They’ve got lots of class in the squad, so whoever steps in will be a solid player.”
Carey is particularly excited to see fellow South Australian Nathan McSweeney make his Test debut. “He’s in great form, a great person to have around, and I’m really excited to see what he can do,” Carey added.
