All-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai named ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year
Azmatullah Omarzai has emerged as a key player for Afghanistan in 2024, solidifying his reputation as one of the world’s leading One Day International (ODI) performers. The 24-year-old all-rounder excelled with both bat and ball, finishing the year as Afghanistan’s second-highest run scorer and wicket taker. He amassed 417 runs at an impressive average of 52.12 and took 17 wickets at 20.47 across 14 ODIs.
Omarzai’s standout performances included an unbeaten 149 in his first ODI of the year against Sri Lanka and a destructive 86 off just 50 balls against South Africa, showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure. His contributions were crucial in helping Afghanistan secure four consecutive ODI series victories against Ireland, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
In a memorable series-deciding match against Bangladesh in November, Omarzai’s all-round brilliance shone through as he took 4 wickets for 37 runs and scored a vital 70 not out, leading his team to victory.
