Shubman Gill’s participation in India’s upcoming practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra is uncertain due to a finger injury sustained on November 16. Initially, it was believed he might miss the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, MorneMorkel, Team India’s assistant coach, suggested Gill could return for the first Test if his recovery progresses well. Although he did not play in Perth, India achieved a significant victory by 295 runs.
Gill was expected to need 10-14 days for recovery and has reportedly been practicing at Manuka Oval. If he plays in the two-day match from November 31 to December 1, it would confirm his availability for the second Test in Adelaide.
In his absence, DevduttPadikkal filled the number three batting position. While many anticipate Gill’s return to that spot, some propose moving him down the order to accommodate KL Rahul, who excelled in Perth. With Rohit Sharma returning, he is set to open alongside YashasviJaiswal, allowing Rahul to potentially bat at three, even if it means shifting both Gill and ViratKohli down the lineup.
