Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy remains uncertain as he has traveled to Bengaluru for further assessment of his back injury at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The star pacer arrived on February 2 to undergo scans and rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI medical team.
Bumrah suffered a back stress injury during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney, which has sidelined him from action since then. Although he was included in the squad for the series against England, he was ultimately rested to focus on his recovery. Reports indicate that Bumrah is expected to remain at the NCA for 2-3 days while evaluations are conducted, after which a fitness report will be submitted to AjitAgarkar, the BCCI Chief Selector.
Agarkar previously stated that Bumrah needed a five-week offloading period to recover properly, emphasizing that his fitness status would be clarified in early February. The Indian team is hopeful for his return, as Bumrah’s skills are crucial for their chances in the Champions Trophy, starting on February 19. Meanwhile, backup plans are in place should he not regain fitness in time.
