The International Cricket Council (ICC) is working hard to convince the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to consider hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy in a hybrid model. Through back channels, the ICC is trying to make PCB understand that hosting the tournament, especially with India’s involvement, isn’t feasible without this arrangement. The hybrid model would involve splitting matches between Pakistan and a neutral venue, likely the UAE.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already informed both the ICC and PCB that India won’t travel to Pakistan for the event. In response, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi publicly stated Pakistan’s desire to host the tournament entirely and urged the ICC to release the schedule. However, according to a report, the ICC has requested PCB to avoid making further statements regarding India, as tensions between the two boards could escalate.
The tournament schedule was initially expected on November 12, then postponed to November 19, but has been delayed again due to India’s stance. The UAE is expected to co-host, with India playing their matches there. PCB, however, is unhappy with the hybrid model, as they fear financial losses, having already invested heavily in preparations. If the event isn’t fully hosted in Pakistan, the ICC may need to compensate.
