As per report, KKR to release Rs 24.75 cr buy Mitchell Starc ahead of IPL 2025 auction after just one season

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly set to part ways with Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Starc remains the most expensive player in IPL history, with KKR paying a staggering ₹24.75 crore for him in the 2023 mini-auction. However, despite the hefty investment, his performances didn’t quite justify the price tag.Starc returned to the IPL after a long hiatus, and KKR went all out to secure his services, outbidding other franchises. However, his contribution in IPL 2024, where he took 17 wickets in 14 matches, fell short of expectations. This led to internal discussions within the franchise, and as per report, KKR is now unlikely to retain the Australian pacer for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. What further adds to the decision is the standout performance of uncapped player Harshit Rana, who took 19 wickets, outperforming Starc despite being significantly lower in cost. With the mega auction approaching, KKR is likely preparing for a squad revamp and will free up the massive sum tied to Starc’s contract to strengthen other areas of the team. This move signals KKR’s strategy to focus on building a more balanced and effective lineup for the next season.
