As per report, Rohit Sharma ‘Opts Out’ Of Sydney Test, Jasprit Bumrah To Captain India In BGT Finale

Amid ongoing controversies surrounding the Indian cricket team, captain Rohit Sharma has opted to rest for the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, starting Friday in Sydney. This decision comes after a disappointing run of form, where Rohit managed only 31 runs across five innings in the series. JaspritBumrah will lead the team in his absence, aiming to level the series and retain the trophy.

Rohit informed head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar of his decision, which they accepted. During practice, Rohit was seen briefly batting but missed routine slip practice sessions, raising further questions about his fitness and form. Shubman Gill is expected to return to the playing XI at number three, with KL Rahul opening alongside YashasviJaiswal. Prasidh Krishna will replace the injured Akash Deep.

Gambhir remained non-committal about Rohit’s status during a press conference, stating they would assess the pitch conditions before finalizing the playing XI. With India trailing 2-1 in the series, this match is crucial for their chances in the World Test Championship cycle. Rohit’s absence could signal a turning point in his Test career as he may not feature in future plans for upcoming tours.
