The Board of Control for Cricket in India will reportedly consider appointing both Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman to key coaching roles in the Indian men’s cricket team. This potential strategy aims to leverage the strengths and experiences of both former cricketers.
Until recently, Gautam Gambhir was seen as the clear favorite to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian team. Reports suggested that the BCCI had already reached an agreement with Gambhir, with an official announcement expected after the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the emergence of WV Raman as a strong candidate has introduced new dynamics into the selection process.
According to a report, the BCCI is exploring the possibility of utilizing both Gambhir and Raman in complementary coaching roles.
A source familiar with the developments suggested several ways this could be achieved: “The Indian cricket board must look at utilizing the services of both Raman and Gambhir. There are numerous ways in which one can do that: say, have Gambhir as head coach and Raman as batting coach, or allow Raman to have more say in red ball. Both can benefit Indian cricket, and that’s what one should look at.”
