As per the report, Babar Azam’s Pakistan team faces treason charges for poor performance in the T20 World Cup
When the Pakistani cricket team doesn’t do well, the fans somehow find ways to get one up on the players, breaking their hearts. In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Babar Azam & Co. have been poor so far, having won only against Canada and registering losses against India and the USA. That also puts their campaign in jeopardy, as they might not be able to make it to the Super 8.
A disgruntled lawyer fan in Pakistan’s Gujranwala has filed a treason petition against the Pakistan cricket team, as per a report in Arab News, reported by local media. As per the reports, “The petitioner expressed deep concern over the disappointing performance of the national cricket team, calling it a waste of money and a betrayal of the nation’s trust.”
“The petition accuses the team of putting at stake millions of rupees and the integrity of the nation, alleging that the players and team management prioritized financial gain over the country’s honor.”
“Furthermore, the petition highlights the severe hurt caused to the sentiments of the people during matches against America and India, citing these performances as particularly egregious,” it added. “It calls for a ban on the team until a thorough inquiry is conducted by the interior secretary and a comprehensive report is completed.”
Meanwhile, the court has also responded to the petition and asked for a report from the police on the registration of the case, which was directed to be filed by June 21.
