Australia, captained by Josh Inglis, secured a dominant 29-run victory over Pakistan in a rain-shortened T20I series opener at The Gabba on November 14. The match, reduced to seven overs per side, saw Australia’s batters, led by Glenn Maxwell, overpower Pakistan to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

After openers Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk fell early, Maxwell stepped in at number three and unleashed a powerful display of hitting. He attacked Pakistan’s top bowlers, including ShaheenAfridi and Naseem Shah, scoring a rapid 43 off just 19 balls. Marcus Stoinis added to the onslaught with an unbeaten 21 off seven balls, lifting Australia to a challenging total of 93 in their seven overs.

Pakistan, faced with a steep chase, struggled to find momentum. Australian bowlers Xavier Bartlett (3/13) and Nathan Ellis (3/9) applied immense pressure, restricting Pakistan’s scoring opportunities. Captain Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for a duck, and Babar Azam couldn’t build the partnerships needed to challenge Australia’s total. Pakistan’s innings ended at 64/9, well short of the target.

Pakistan will look to bounce back and address their batting issues in the second T20I in Sydney on November 16, hoping to level the series and stay competitive.
