Australia won a Test series in Sri Lanka after 14 years

Australia defeated Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the second Test in Galle, securing a 2-0 series sweep. This marks a Test series win in Sri Lanka after 14 years.

In response to Sri Lanka’s first-innings score of 257, Australia scored 414, led by centuries from Steve Smith (131) and Alex Carey (156). Their fourth-wicket partnership of 259 runs was the second-highest for Australia against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was then bowled out for 231 in their second innings, and Australia chased down the target of 75, losing only Travis Head’s wicket.

Australia’s spin duo, Matthew Kuhnemann (16 wickets) and Nathan Lyon (14 wickets), dominated the series. Smith reached a milestone, becoming the first Australian and fifth overall to take 200 outfield catches. Australia has secured its place in the World Test Championship final against South Africa in June.
