Before Asia Cup 2025, PCB’s Mohsin Naqvi takes over as ACC head months

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has undergone a leadership change, with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi taking over as ACC President from Sri Lanka Cricket’s Shammi Silva. This transition comes just months before the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September. Naqvi’s appointment aligns with the ACC’s rotational leadership policy.

Expressing his gratitude, Naqvi stated, “I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence.” He also thanked the outgoing president for his contributions to the council.

The Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted by India but is set to follow a hybrid model due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Reports suggest that matches will be held in UAE and Sri Lanka, similar to the arrangement during the previous edition where India played all its games in Sri Lanka. This model reflects the decision made prior to the Champions Trophy, ensuring neither country visits the other for tournaments.

Naqvi’s tenure as ACC President will also involve overseeing major events like the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, adding significant responsibilities to his role.
