Before India vs Australia day-night Test, KL Rahul to Rohit and Gambhir

KL Rahul is aware of his batting position for India’s day-night Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, but the team management has instructed him not to disclose it publicly. With captain Rohit Sharma returning after paternity leave, speculation surrounds Rahul’s role in the batting order. He performed admirably as an opener in Perth, scoring 77 runs and forming a record 200-plus partnership with YashasviJaiswal. However, with Rohit back, he is expected to reclaim his opening spot.

Rahul expressed his calmness about the situation, stating, “I just want to be in the playing XI. Just fit me in.” He acknowledged that adjusting to different batting positions has been challenging but emphasized his readiness to contribute wherever needed. Despite being a natural opener, he has adapted well to middle-order roles throughout his career.

The Indian think tank appears to be keeping everyone guessing regarding the batting order. Shubman Gill is likely to take the number three slot, while discussions arise about whether Rahul will slide down to number six. Former players like Harbhajan Singh have suggested that maintaining stability in the top order is crucial, indicating that Rahul should ideally bat higher.

As Rahul prepares for his first pink-ball Test, he remains focused on simplifying his game and leveraging his experience across various batting positions. The upcoming match promises to be a significant test for India as they aim to build on their recent success against Australia.
