Tempers flared during the first T20I between India and South Africa as Marco Jansen reportedly complained about wicketkeeper Sanju Samson collecting a throw on the pitch. This led to a heated exchange between Samson and Jansen, prompting India captain Suryakumar Yadav to intervene. The confrontation occurred after the second delivery of the 15th over, bowled by Ravi Bishnoi. Umpires quickly stepped in to diffuse the situation, although Suryakumar and South African pacer Gerald Coetzee continued their discussion.
Despite the drama, India emerged victorious, defeating South Africa by 61 runs. Samson scored a remarkable 107 off 50 balls, becoming the first Indian to hit back-to-back T20I centuries. His innings included ten sixes and seven fours, helping India post 202/8. The Indian bowlers then dominated, with Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi each taking three wickets, bowling South Africa out for 141 in just 17.5 overs.
Samson expressed gratitude for the trust shown in him by the team management and emphasized his commitment to contributing to India’s success. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series, with the next match scheduled for Sunday in Gqeberha.
