Behind sudden retirement , R Ashwin reveals the thought process

Ravichandran Ashwin has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, a decision that took the cricketing world by surprise. The announcement came shortly after the conclusion of the third Test between India and Australia at the Gabba, where Ashwin shared an emotional hug with ViratKohli. In a press conference alongside captain Rohit Sharma, he explained his thought process behind this monumental decision.

Ashwin emphasized that he has never been one to cling to his career or seek validation from others. “I do not believe in people celebrating me,” he stated, highlighting that the game itself has always been his priority over personal accolades. He reflected on his journey, expressing that he felt a lack of direction in his creativity and innovation as a cricketer, leading him to contemplate retirement.

“I’ve often said that the day I wake up and feel my creative side doesn’t have a future or direction, I’ll give it up,” Ashwin revealed. His decision was not impulsive; rather, it stemmed from deep introspection about his role in cricket. With 765 international wickets across formats, Ashwin leaves behind a remarkable legacy as one of India’s greatest spinners, ready to explore new opportunities beyond international play while continuing to participate in franchise cricket.
