Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi says, “I expected more from Afghanistan on this tour"

The Afghanistan cricket team has earned the praise of the entire cricket fraternity with their brilliant performance in the 2023 World Cup. Afghanistan, featuring only in their 3rd 50-over World Cup, turned giant-slayers in India and put themselves in the race to the semi-finals even as the likes of England, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh failed to come up with the goods. Afghanistan beat three former champions, including England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, and nearly pulled off a famous win against Australia. Despite their sensational performances, captain Hashmatullah Shahidi is not entirely happy, as he wants more from the talented bunch.
On Thursday, Hashmatullah Shahidi told the press conference in Ahmedabad that, “As a team, we feel proud; we are happy with what we did in this World Cup. But as a captain, I wanted and expected more. We should have done better. Especially in the last game, if we beat Australia, that would have been a good achievement for us. But now, we still have one game, and if we finish that well,
He further said that, “We are looking forward, and still, with what happened, we are feeling proud as a team and as a nation.”
