Due to ankle injury, Yashasvi Jaiswal ruled out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semis clash vs Vidarbha

Yashasvi Jaiswal will miss Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semifinal match against Vidarbha due to an ankle injury. The match is set to commence on February 17. Jaiswal complained of pain in his left ankle. He will now head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further evaluation.

This is a blow for Mumbai, the defending champions. Jaiswal, who was initially in India’s preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy but was later dropped, had been focusing on the Ranji Trophy. After being dropped from the Champions Trophy team, this is another blow for Jaiswal.

In the only Ranji match he played in the second leg against Jammu and Kashmir, Jaiswal managed to score 30 runs across two innings. Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil had earlier noted that Jaiswal’s inclusion would boost the team’s morale. Jaiswal was replaced by Varun Chakravarthy in India’s final squad for the Champions Trophy. He was named as a non-travelling reserve along with ShivamDube and Siraj. He made his ODI debut in the first ODI against England.

The Ranji Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India and organized annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Mumbai is the most successful team in the tournament, with 42 titles. They are the current title holders of the 2023–24 edition.
