Due to finger injury, Shubman Gill likely to miss India vs Australia 2nd Test

Shubman Gill remains doubtful for the upcoming India vs Australia second Test in Adelaide, scheduled to begin on December 6. The young batter sustained a finger injury during practice on November 16, which forced him to miss the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Initially, it was reported that he could be sidelined for at least two weeks, and although there was hope for a quick recovery, it appears he will also miss the two-day practice match at Manuka Oval.

According to sources, Gill was advised a 10-14 day rest by medical specialists following his injury. He will require quality practice sessions before being considered for selection in a Test match. “Let’s see how much his injury has healed and how his finger feels,” a source stated, indicating that even after healing, he will need time to regain match fitness.

Former selector JatinParanjape suggested that Gill could miss “two to three Tests” due to the nature of thumb injuries. His absence is significant as India looks to build on their 295-run victory in the first Test and aims for success in the day-night match against Australia. If Gill is unavailable, KL Rahul may move back to No. 3 in the batting order.
