England has officially announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler appointed as captain. This same squad will also participate in a three-match ODI series in India scheduled for February 2025, just before the tournament begins. The England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that the team will depart for India on January 17, arriving four days prior to the first of five T20 matches against the host nation.
Notably, star all-rounder Ben Stokes has been excluded from the squad due to ongoing assessments related to a left hamstring injury sustained during the recent third Test against New Zealand. The ECB’s media release indicated that Stokes was not considered for selection as he continues his recovery.
In addition to Buttler, key players like Joe Root, who returns to the ODI side after a hiatus, and fast bowler Mark Wood, who had previously missed tours due to injury, are included in the squad. The Champions Trophy is set to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, featuring teams like Australia, South Africa, and Pakistan alongside England
