Tim Paine has praised DhruvJurel for his impressive performance during the second unofficial Test match between Australia A and India A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batter scored 80 and 68, demonstrating remarkable composure on the bouncy MCG pitch. Paine highlighted Jurel’s potential, stating, “There’s a guy who has wicket kept in a few Test matches for India… I’d be staggered if he doesn’t play.”
Jurel’s innings were crucial, especially as he came to bat when India was struggling at 11 for 4 in the first innings and 44 for 4 in the second. His ability to handle pressure and play effectively against Australia A earned him widespread acclaim. Paine believes Jurel is a player to watch this summer, asserting that he possesses the skills necessary for Test cricket despite the challenges posed by Australia’s premier bowlers, including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood.
The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series is set to begin on November 22 at Perth’s Optus Stadium, where Jurel hopes to secure a spot in the playing XI following his strong performances.
