Ex Head Coach of Delhi Capitals Ricky Ponting appointed as Punjab Kings head coach
Former head coach of Delhi Capitals Ricky Ponting has been appointed head coach of Punjab Kings from IPL 2025. He has been appointed a little over two months after he and his previous franchise Delhi Capitals parted ways ending his seven-year tenure at the franchise.
As per the report Ponting has signed a multi-year contract with Punjab Kings, a franchise with multiple owners. Now after being appointed as the head coach of Punjab Kings now Ricky Ponting is going to take the final call of the coaching staff.There is no clarity yet on who remains on the books from the coaching unit from last year.
In four seasons at Kings Ponting is going to be the third head coach, who finished ninth in the 2024 season. They have not qualified for the IPL playoffs since 2014, when they finished runners-up. His first challenge would be shortlisting players who could be potentially retained for the next season even as the franchises wait for the IPL to finalise the retention rules.
