A notable incident unfolded on the opening day of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where ViratKohli clashed with 19-year-old Australian opener Sam Konstas. The confrontation occurred during the ninth over when Kohli and Konstas shoulder-barged into each other, leading to a heated exchange of words. Kohli, visibly frustrated by Konstas’s aggressive batting, was seen giving the young player a glaring look after the collision.
Despite former Australian captain Ricky Ponting suggesting that Kohli instigated the altercation, he faced only a minor penalty from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Kohli was fined 20% of his match fees for what was deemed a Level 1 offence. Ravi Shastri, former head coach of Team India and a close associate of Kohli, criticized the incident as “unnecessary,” emphasizing that such behavior is not befitting a senior player like Kohli.

Konstas, who had been performing impressively with a score of 67 runs, downplayed the incident afterward, stating that it was an accidental bump and part of cricket’s competitive nature. The situation was quickly diffused by Usman Khawaja, who intervened to separate the two players before tensions escalated further.
