Dinesh Karthik, former Indian cricket star, recently participated in the SA20 league for Paarl Royals, marking him as the first Indian player in the tournament. After retiring from the IPL in 2024, Karthik supports the BCCI’s policy restricting Indian players from participating in overseas T20 leagues unless they retire from Indian cricket.
Karthik believes the IPL should remain the BCCI’s “crown jewel” and the premier T20 league globally. He advocates that only retired Indian cricketers should be allowed to play in foreign leagues to maintain the IPL’s status. Karthik emphasized that the financial stability provided by the Indian cricket structure is sufficient for its players.
During his time with the Paarl Royals, Karthik played 11 matches, scoring 130 runs with a high score of 53. He also aimed to contribute to the development of young South African players. Karthik’s participation has opened discussions about opportunities for other Indian players in the SA20 after they retire from the IPL.
