Rishabh Pant has become a focal point of attention after Delhi Capitals chose not to retain him on IPL 2025 Retention Day. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter is now set to be a major attraction at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, with teams expected to engage in fierce bidding wars to secure his services. However, cricket analyst Aakash Chopra believes that Delhi Capitals won’t be bidding for their former captain, citing ego concerns as a potential reason.
Reports suggest that Delhi Capitals and Pant reached a disagreement over his retention. Allegedly, the franchise wanted to remove Pant as captain and hand the leadership to Axar Patel. At the same time, Pant reportedly lost trust in the management following the appointment of a new manager and Director of Cricket.
“They have ‘Right To Match’ (RTM) cards left for two capped players. They might use one for Jake Fraser-McGurk, but I don’t think they’ll go for Rishabh Pant beyond a certain budget. They might show initial interest but will pull out after a certain point,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Chopra further noted that Delhi Capitals could refrain from bidding for Pant entirely due to ego issues, and the high price tag Pant is expected to command may also deter them from making a serious offer.
