Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is intensifying his training efforts to make a comeback to competitive cricket after a two-month hiatus. He last represented India in a T20I against Sri Lanka on July 30, 2024. Pandya is expected to participate in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, scheduled for October 6, 9, and 12, 2024.
Despite his preparations, former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik expressed skepticism regarding Pandya’s potential return to Test cricket. Karthik remarked that while it would be beneficial for India if Pandya were available, he would be “very surprised” if Pandya returned to the Test team, citing concerns about his physical readiness for the demands of the longest format.
Karthik noted that playing Test cricket may not be easy for Pandya given his current physical condition. This sentiment echoes remarks from former coach Ravi Shastri, who emphasized the importance of Pandya assessing his fitness before committing to a return to red-ball cricket. As Pandya continues his rigorous training, the cricket community remains divided on whether he can successfully transition back into Test matches after a six-year absence from the format.
