The skipper of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, departed playing a risky and unnecessary shot. This prompted the great Sunil Gavaskar to claim that there was no need to play that kind of shot. India began their innings on a fiery note, but Rohit Sharma fell for 24 while trying to hit a six.
It was Yashasvi Jaiswal who dominated the onslaught of Team India. But Rohit contributed as an anchor. He went on to slam three fours as he quickly raked up 24 runs from 27 balls. But eager to hit a six, Rohit mistimed Jack Leach and Ben Stokes took a comfortable catch to scalp India’s first wicket.
Sunil Gavaskar, on commentary after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, said “there was no need for that shot.” Rohit once again fell victim to the English spinner. This has been the 5th time he has been dismissed by Lack Leach in 7 innings.
