For a record of Rs 24.75 crore, KKR bought Mitchell Starc

The star of the Australian cricket team Mitchell Starc went for big money in the IPL 2024 auction on Tuesday. The fast bowler was sold for Rs 24 crore to the Kolkata Knight Riders. The move came after an intense bidding war with the Gujarat Titans. He was part of Australia’s World Cup-winning campaign.

Starc is no stranger to the IPL, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders previously. The fast bowler has played 27 matches in the IPL till now, taking 34 wickets. It was his economy rate of just over seven that attracted interest in him.

On this costliest purchase of Mitchell Starc, Irfan Pathan wrote on X, “In a world where many leagues operate on a budget less than $25 million for the entire team, Starc's bank account boasts historic numbers.”

Starc has been an important player in Australia’s set-up too, playing 58 T20I matches for the Aussies. The left arm quick has taken 73 wickets in the T20Is with a very healthy economy rate. He averages just over 22, which is a decent number in T20I cricket.
