For Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup exit vs South Africa Michael Vaughan blames India’s scheduling

Former captain of team England Michael Vaughan has sparked controversy by suggesting the T20 World Cup schedule might have disadvantaged Afghanistan in their semi-final defeat to South Africa.

Afghanistan’s dream run in the T20 World Cup came to a crashing end as they were bundled out for a meager 56 runs in the first semi-final against South Africa. South Africa’s bowlers capitalized on the conditions, leaving Afghanistan with no response.

Michael Vaughan took to social media to express his concerns about the challenges faced by Afghanistan. He pointed out a significant flight delay that impacted their travel time to Trinidad for the semi-final. This delay meant they had limited time to practice and adjust to the new venue, putting them at a disadvantage.

Michael Vaughan further questioned the fairness of the schedule, suggesting it might have prioritized Indian viewership timings over competitive balance. He argued that the semi-final should have been played in Guyana, which wouldn’t have affected Afghanistan’s travel and preparation time.
