The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sparked controversy by refusing to print “Pakistan,” the host nation’s name, on Team India’s jerseys for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will be held in Pakistan and Dubai, with all of India’s matches scheduled in Dubai. A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official criticized the BCCI’s decision, claiming it brings “politics into cricket,” which undermines the spirit of the game.
The PCB official expressed frustration over India’s stance, stating, “They refused to travel to Pakistan and now don’t want the host nation’s name on their jersey. We believe the ICC will not allow this and will support Pakistan.” This situation follows India’s earlier refusal to send its team to Pakistan due to security concerns, leading to a hybrid model where India plays its matches in Dubai.
Additionally, reports indicate that Indian captain Rohit Sharma may not attend the opening ceremony in Pakistan, further complicating relations between the two boards. As the tournament approaches, tensions continue to escalate, highlighting the broader diplomatic issues affecting cricket between India and Pakistan. The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, 2025.
