For Champions Trophy, Mohammed Shami’s loud ‘all set to take on the world’ message to selectors as Bumrah concerns grows

Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami is eager to return to the Indian cricket team for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19. Although he missed out on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to injury concerns, Shami has been actively participating in domestic cricket and shared a video of his practice session, captioning it: “Precision, Pace, and Passion, All Set to Take on the World!”

The AjitAgarkar-led selection committee is expected to announce India’s squad for the Champions Trophy by January 12, coinciding with the deadline for all teams to submit their provisional squads. Shami’s absence from the Australian tour raised eyebrows, especially as he has been performing well in domestic formats since recovering from an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, concerns are growing over JaspritBumrah’s fitness after he suffered back spasms during the Sydney Test. The BCCI has yet to provide an official update on his injury status. If Bumrah’s injury is classified as Grade 1, he may require two to three weeks of rehabilitation; Grade 2 could extend recovery up to six weeks, while a Grade 3 injury may necessitate three months of rest.

Shami’s potential inclusion could bolster India’s pace attack, especially with Bumrah’s uncertain availability as they prepare for the Champions Trophy.
