ICC Chair Jay Shah is set to travel to Lausanne for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session on January 30, 2025, where he will discuss the potential inclusion of cricket in the 2032 Olympics. This follows his recent visit to Brisbane, where he met with key officials, including Brisbane Olympic Organising Committee chief Cindy Hook and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley, to promote cricket’s presence in the upcoming games.
Shah, who previously played a pivotal role in securing cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, emphasized the sport’s exciting future. He stated, “This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide.”
The IOC session will feature presentations from candidates for the IOC presidency, and cricket’s return to the Olympics is highly anticipated after its last appearance in 1900. The tournament is expected to include Twenty20 matches for both men’s and women’s teams. With Shah’s leadership and influence, there is optimism surrounding cricket’s bid for inclusion in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, aiming to expand its global reach and fan engagement.
