For England series, KL Rahul tells Agarkar not to pick him, goes on a break

KL Rahul has decided to take a break from cricket following a physically and mentally taxing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He has informed the AjitAgarkar-led BCCI selection committee that he would like to be exempted from the upcoming limited-overs series against England, which starts on January 22 in Kolkata. This series includes five T20s and three ODIs, serving as crucial preparation for the Champions Trophy beginning on February 19.

While Rahul is not currently an automatic choice in the ODI lineup, especially with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson back in contention, he has assured selectors of his availability for the Champions Trophy. A BCCI source confirmed, “He has sought a break for the England series but will be available for selection for the Champions Trophy.”

Despite India’s struggles in Australia, Rahul was one of the few batters to perform well, scoring 276 runs in 10 innings. His form dipped towards the end of the series, but he had initially impressed by stepping up to open the batting when Rohit Sharma was unavailable. As he takes this break, Rahul aims to return refreshed and ready for the international stage during the Champions Trophy.
