For Ex-Selector On His Demise, Sachin Tendulkar Posts Heartfelt Message

Milind Rege, the former Mumbai cricket captain and selector, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 76 after suffering a heart attack. His death came just days after celebrating his birthday, marking a significant loss for Mumbai cricket. Rege was remembered fondly by Sachin Tendulkar, who shared a heartfelt message highlighting Rege’s immense contribution to the sport. Tendulkar noted that Rege had a unique ability to identify talent, which played a crucial role in his own career development when he was invited to join the Cricket Club of India.

Rege's cricketing career spanned from 1966 to 1978, during which he played 52 first-class matches, taking 126 wickets and scoring 1,532 runs. After retiring, he remained deeply involved in cricket administration, serving as a chief selector and advisor for the Mumbai Cricket Association. His legacy continued through his mentorship of young cricketers, including Tendulkar, who made his Ranji Trophy debut under Rege's selection committee.

In tribute to Rege, players from Mumbai and Vidarbha observed a minute's silence during their Ranji Trophy semi-final match and wore black armbands as a mark of respect. His passing leaves a profound void in the cricketing community.
