For IPL season 2025, Rajat Patidar named new RCB captain

Rajat Patidar has been named the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for IPL 2025, which starts on March 21. The announcement was made at an event In Bengaluru attended by RCB director Mo Bobat and head coach Andy Flower. Patidar, who was retained by RCB for INR 11 Crore, has been with the franchise since 2021 and has scored 799 runs in 28 matches at a strike rate of 158.85.

The 31-year-old middle-order batter has become the eighth player to lead RCB. This decision comes after RCB released Faf du Plessis, who captained the side from 2022 to 2024. ViratKohli, who was also considered for the role but was hesitant to take it up, has pledged his support for Patidar.

Patidar has captaincy experience, leading Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy during the 2024-25 season. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was the second-highest run-scorer with 428 runs in nine innings.

RCB has been aiming to find a new captain since releasing Du Plessis, and with Patidar’s appointment, they have found a viable option.
