For Services to Cricket, England Batter Joe Root Receives MBE

On Wednesday, the batsman of the England cricket team, Joe Root, was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire by Princess Anne at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle for his services to cricket.

Former England captain Root made his international debut in December 2012 against India. He has so far played 140 Tests, 171 ODIs, and 32 T20Is, scoring a combined 19151 runs in them. He was part of the England squad that won the 2019 ODI World Cup, where he was also the top scorer for his team.

After former captain Alastair Cook, who scored 12472 runs during his career. His tally of 11,736 runs so far in Test cricket is the second-best in England history.

The 33-year-old top-order batter says he wants to give back to society.

Root said, “When you’ve played a little while and you’ve quite a bit of experience like I have, that’s a responsibility that you’re very aware of and something that you want to try and give back.”

He further added, “You want to give back to the game as much as you can and try and encourage as many young boys and girls to take up the game because of the opportunities, not just on the field and stuff, but off the field that I’ve been able to experience through cricket.”
