For Showing Dissent Towards Umpire In Ranji Trophy, Maharashtra Batter Handed One-Match Ban

Maharashtra batter Ankeet Bawne has been suspended for one match by the BCCI due to dissent against an umpire’s decision during a Ranji Trophy match last November. The incident occurred when Bawne was given out after a catch by Services’ ShubhamRohilla, but he contested the call, refusing to leave the field for about 15 minutes because DRS was unavailable. The match resumed only after intervention from match referee Amit Sharma and Maharashtra coach Sulakshan Kulkarni.

As a result of the suspension, Bawne is missing the ongoing match against Baroda in Nashik but will be available for future games. The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) released a statement affirming their respect for the BCCI’s decision and their commitment to discipline and sportsmanship in cricket. Captain RuturajGaikwad, currently on tour with India A in Australia, also expressed discontent over the dismissal on social media, suggesting that Bawne was wrongly adjudicated out. Bawne has been a significant player for Maharashtra, with over 8,000 runs in First-Class cricket since his debut in 2007.
