For the 1st Test match in Perth Australia announce Test squad

Cricket Australia has announced a 13-member squad for the first Test against India in Perth, set to begin on November 22. Notably, Nathan McSweeney is poised to make his Test debut as an opener, having outperformed seasoned contenders like Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft. Josh Inglis has also been included as a surprise pick for the reserve wicketkeeper role.

National selector George Bailey praised McSweeney’s recent domestic performances, highlighting his contributions to South Australia and Australia A as key factors in his selection. McSweeney has impressed with his versatility, scoring 39 and an unbeaten 88 while batting at No. 4 in a recent match against India A, leading to his promotion to the opening slot for the upcoming Test.

Scott Boland joins the squad as a reserve pacer to support the main bowling attack of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood. The squad will assemble in Perth on November 17, just five days before the Test. With McSweeney’s standout performances and Inglis’s inclusion, Australia aims to set a strong foundation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India.
