Mohammed Shami will be a big miss for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024. But he will be a bigger miss for the Indian Cricket Team, especially in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The highest wicket taker in the ODI World Cup won’t be a part of the team for the T20 World Cup. The ace pacer is set to go under the knife for his ankle injury.
Shami hasn’t been in action since the ODI World Cup. And now his return has been further delayed. Currently in the UK, Shami was receiving treatment for his swollen ankle. But with nothing done, he is now set to undergo surgery for the same.
Shami will naturally miss the IPL. He will also miss the T20 World Cup, followed by the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. India is on the hunt for an ICC Trophy. Thus, it is imperative that India field their full strength in the T20 World Cup.
A senior BCCI source said on the condition of anonymity,Shami was in London in the last week of January to take special ankle injections, and he was told that after three weeks, he can start light running and take it from thereon.
“But the injection hasn’t worked, and now the only option left is surgery. He will shortly leave for the UK for surgery. IPL seems out of the question.”
