Former Captain of Australia Ponting picks rising star as current best Test batter

Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has named England’s Harry Brook as the best Test batter in the world, following Brook’s recent ascent to the top of the ICC Test batting rankings. Brook, who replaced teammate Joe Root at the number one spot with a rating of 898, has made significant strides in international cricket, highlighted by back-to-back centuries against New Zealand.

Ponting praised Brook’s remarkable ability to score runs away from home, noting that seven of his eight Test centuries have come in overseas matches. “He probably is the best Test batter in the world right now. He’s doing some pretty amazing things, most of them away from home,” Ponting stated. His performances have not only impressed fans but also prompted Ponting to acquire him during the IPL 2024 auction for ₹4 crore while coaching Delhi Capitals.

Brook has accumulated 2,280 runs from 23 Tests, boasting an impressive average of 61.62. His current form includes scores of 171, 123, and 55 in his last three innings. As England prepares for the final Test against New Zealand, Brook aims to continue his exceptional run and solidify his status as a leading player in world cricket.
